Hi,
When I started my diet, I managed to get a good safe level of weight loss each week, and the effects were gradual, but now things seem to be reacting really weirdly. I posted another question recently about weight plateaus, and I had reached 11 stones and couldn't shift it. Over a week friday to friday the weight didn't change, then suddenly, over this weekend it seems to have dropped to 10st 9lbs?? Why does this happen in your body- I didn't change any aspect of my regime- apart from gong to the gym in the morning instead of afternoon. Why didn't my body lose weight gradually, slowly over several days- I really don't understand this- any help would be much appreciated!!

Yes weight loss does that.Usually water weight is what is observed in the beginning, after 3-4 weeks comes the plateau in which most people give up followed by a sudden drop. The body has to adjust to these changes. This is all normal. Too bad you are on a "diet" Usually this diet will get old. Old habits return and you either end up where you were or add more pounds to it. It's rather easy to diet really,. Try keeping it off. Tis better to change one's lifestyle than to diet. Take the stairs, walk to the store, park far from the store, ride your bicycle, make exchanges: fruit instead of candy, no fast food, low fat milk instead of whole milk, whole grains, fish, salads. And of course, a real treat every two weeks. Most diets are unhealthy, unrealistic, and leaves one prone to yo-yo dieting;really bad on the body. Congratulations on your weight loss. I want you to meet and exceed your goal, but more importantly I want you to live your goal. Good luck.

What was your lifestyle like over the weekend? What did you eat? 9 lbs is a lot to lose over the weekend and depending on your size can't be down to the water weight that people randomly drop. What time of day did you weigh yourself before? These are all factors. My guess is, if you feel okay, it was just a scale miscalculation the previous week - maybe you were shifting in a way or wearing something that you weren't before. Don't be worried if you're feeling okay.

Everyone responds to weight loss differently. As a dietitian, I have a lot of experience helping people lose weight and I have seen a lot of people hit plateaus or just slowly lose weight.
Your body seems to respond by losing the weight at once after several days of a negative calorie balance. Also, the plateaus are a way of the body to readjust to the changes before more changes are being made. For most people, to get past the plateau they will have to increase exercise or decrease intake to get past the plateau. If you are increasing muscle mass though, you will not have to do much since muscle burns more calories than fat at rest.

your body does the weirdest of things, and sometimes it has to settle with somethings that u do to it. losing lots of weight quickly or even over a period of weeks, can be a shock to the system, and ur body has to adjust to that, before it can continue. it wouldn't make a difference when u went to the gym whether it be in the morning, afternoon, or evening, its exercise all the same, every body is different. i can lose 2 stone without doing anything, and then a year later put in on again, then lose it!
if your losing lots of weight quickly, see your doctor for regular blood pressure checks, losing weight can effect this, causing all kinds of medical issues, theres looking after ur self, and abusing ur body!
take care, and i hope it helps. x

Try to weigh yourself at the same time of day, an remember things like clothes, how much u sweat, an going to the toilet can change your weight!
Dont worry bout it, just do things healthy and your goin the right way, dont panic if u gain weight also as muscle is heavyer than fat!
