I as well as J look too much as numbers, that's the whole reason - and there are too different ways of pronounciation in the different languages. An F or K is pronounced almost the same in almost any language using our alphabet.

All connectors and plugs and any equipment on an aircraft skip I because it is too easy to mistake it for lower case L or 1.

because it looks like 1. and sometimes there is misunderstanding. the same case is also for "O". it looks like zero-"0".thats why in many institutions these two alphabets are not used when assigning numbers to anything(like seats, rows on a paper etc. etc.)
