it seemed to be litter box trained as it used the box for a week, then all of a sudden it's making little deposits in various parts of my house...i change the box like every 3 days, so it's not because it's dirty...any clues? serious helpful responses only please!!!

Is it possible the kitten is resoiling olde stains left by a previous pet? Is the sandbox in a noisy or busy area of the home? Is the kitten seeing another cat through a window?
It is also possible the food you are giving the kitten is too strong for the system, and is causing a sense of urgency. It could also be that the kitten is too young to hold on until he/she can get to the sandbox. Since this was a stray, have you checked the stools for worms?
Try putting little sandboxes where you found the deposits to reinforce the 'use this' idea, and see your vet to rule out anything more complicated.
If no one else says this to you, I shall; thank you for having such a good and kind heart. You have saved a little life, and your kitten shall love you forever for it.
Good luck to you both!

you should try a different kind of sand.
i use clumping sand the product name is ever clean. you shouldn't change sand every other day, just clean the box from the dposits once a day add a little sand once a week and change the all sand once a month.
try also to change the box location.
also take his poos and put it in the sand make sure he sees you doing it, that way the box will have his smell.

here's a list of you need if you chose to keep him:
Food:
There are several good companies: pro plan, royal canin and science diet.
I recommend pro plan. Their boxes cost between 10 to 30 dollars depends on the size.
It’s not all that expansive, and if you buy the big box it lasts longer and in the yearly over all it will costs you less. On the back of the box it says how much to give.
The ideal weight is about 10 IBS which means about 2/3 a cup about 100grams per day.

Sand:
I use ever clean it’s a clumping sand there are other companies that may cost less, ever clean costs about 25$ and lasts for about a month a month and half. You can also mix buy one box of ever clean and one big bag of the regular type and mix them. I don’t do it I buy one box of ever clean and I’m happy with it.

Other thing you need:
1) A Sand box and a spoon, to clean the box. Clean everyday add a little bit more sand once a week and change all the sand about once a month
2) Two bowls one big for water and one small for food, Purina has a great feeding bowl it’s really cool ask the salesman in the store I just bought and I love it and so is my cat.
3) Games and a scratching as well as a climbing board. Games you can get at the pet shop as well as make on your own. Search the net you’ll find some great articles. There are also articles that explain how to make a scratching board on your own as well as a climbing tree thing.

If the cat scratch the sofa you can do two things: one cut his fingernails once every three weeks or put a product called soft paws here is the link to their site it’s a great product though in some cats it’s hard to put on cause they a little more wild then others mine had to be sedated when we put it on her we stopped cause it wasn’t fair to her I just try and clip her nails at least once a month.

That’s pretty much it.

Do you know if there ever was another cat in your home? Sometimes this happens if they smell where another animal went. Think about where you've placed the little box. Is it in a place the kitten may think is frightening? Does it smell bad? Is it near his/her food? You said you change the box every 3 days. I'll bet this is the problem. I clean my litter box twice daily. Cats are very sensitive to smell, and they don't like a dirty box. I think you'll fix the problem by cleaning the box daily. Also, are you using the old fashioned litter or the new 'clumping'. The clumping is SO much easier to clean, and my cats prefer it. Better on oder control too.

Thank you taking in this baby. So many are left like this, to fend for themselves, and they can't. It's so sad, and it's a story that's played out a 100 times a day. Please, you're kitty does not need to be outside. It's dangerous out there for cats, much less kittens. There are cars, dogs, other cats, and very sick people who do bad things to animals. None of my cats ever go out. Good luck to you and I hope this helps, I really think it will.

Everyone, please spay and neuter your pets.

Since the kitten was dumped, a check-up is in order to make sure the little guy is healthy in any case.

Now, when my husband and I brought our last 2 kittens home, they had been litter-box trained before. But they, too, started pottying in inappropriate places. So I ended up setting out a third tray of litter and retraining them. I've not had any trouble since then.

Good luck!

You didn't mention the kittys age, or sex...But a male will spray your home to mark it's territory. If its a male, that could be why. Also a bladder infection could also be a suspest.. My wife and I have taken in TOO MANY stray kittens over the past 10 years. 6 or 7 kittens each usually has a medical issue of somekind...fleas, bladder infections, ear mites, even feline lukemia. So Its best to take it to the vet anyways...check with your vet.

You didn't mention how old your kitten is. Mama cats litter train their kittens by repeatedly picking them up and placing them in the litter box until they eliminate. If this kitten is still quite young, it may have been abandoned/dropped off before its mama was done with training. You can emulate the mother cat's training process yourself for a while and see if it works. Good luck

I've had 3 cats in my lifetime and have the 3rd one now. I had one cat that would miss the litterbox but he was old. The vet thought that his mind had gone. Your kitten is too young for that. It could be sick. I would suggest taking it to a vet for an answer. Better to be safe than sorry even though it'll cost you.

try to change the litter box every day or every 2nd.
See how kitten reacts, if it will not help check with the vet.

not sure...i have 2 cats. one stray and one from a shelter..and the stray used the litterbox from day one...but my guess is maybe it's confused or something. something from it's past could be causing it to do this. or it could have a bladder infection. cats go over the house if that's the case. my old cat did that. take it to the vet and find out for sure. that's so sweet that you took the cat in! :)

if there is a medical problem that is causing pain when the cat goes to the bathroom then the cat may associate the pain with the litter box and stop using it. i would suggest a vet.
