(Well, some of the answers here illustrate the problem.)
People have a hard time calling a thing what it is because of their own biases or ideologies. Terrorism and cowardice are the attributes of Islamofascism. Fear it.

Islam is a Theocracy. It is a form of government disguised as a religion.
Read the Koran, and you will learn of the duplicity in Islam.
It is okay for them to lie, mistreat, murder, pillage or do anything they can or are able to in their attempt to revert Unbelievers, Infidels or Israeli Jewish people. Read the Koran.
The Islamic concept of oneness, taught in the Koran, is the main problem with the Islamic religion, as far as I'm concerned.
What that means--is world domination by Islam. Yeah, it's really that simple. The concept of one says that everyone is born a Muslim. Let me say that again--according to Islam and taught in the Koran--everybody is born a Muslim.
In Christendom when a person gets religion it is said that they "convert" to Christianity. Well, with Islam when people get religion it is called "reversion," not conversion. That's because the Koran says everybody is born a Muslim, and they did not have to convert. They have just taken up Islam again. That's why the term "revert" is used.
Until Americans and Westerners figure this out, they will be doomed to Muslim wrath by being forced into the Islamic religion. If they refuse Islam--their head will be lopped off. Read the Koran, objectively, and you will learn the truth for yourself.
Check out how many South Seas Islands peoples have been reverted.
Another hallmark of the concept of oneness is the idea that if you stomp, either on purpose or accidently, on a Muslims's toe in Bali or anywhere in the world for that matter, you have stomped on the toe of all Muslims in the world. That's how they recruit so effectively for their jihads from all over the world.
Westerners are living in denial about the truth of Islam. Our government knows this about Islam but are selfishly using the ignorance of the American people to promote their own narrow interests. Teaching the truth about Islam is, to say the least, a long and difficult task.

It is not that people do not want to see it. It is because it is working for them. If terrorism gives you power, why not?
For those hypocritical muslims, on one hand there is this small group of people who are violent and destructive and on the other the so called peace loving muslims.
Both are working towards the same goal. Their movement is very calculated. If someone is being violent and I use that violence for my benefit, like occupying someone else's country or home and benefitting form someone else's destruction, then I am as violent as the small group that are blowing up bombs.
I have this classic example that I always give about Pakistan.
If you ask Pakistanis today, why they were violent and why did they divide the country India, they will say they were brain washed. Or that they are the peace loving people. It is only a few that are violent people.
SO then you will measure their brain washing. Ask them to perform an impossible task towards their muslim community and they will not. So how come the brain washing. If you can differentiate and take the right decisions for your own community but not for others, that is not brain washing. That is very calculated manouvering.
If MOhamed Ali Jinnah was responsible for the separation of Pakistan and Bangladesh from India, how come all the muslims went rushing there to occupy it. How come they killed one million people doing it? How come no one raised a voice and report the matter from within pakistan, when genocide was being committed in Bangladesh?
How come President Musharraf threatens India even today?
THe next thing he is asking for peace talks to be brought about immediately. How come they have these colors they change according to the situation at hand? If Pakistan is so right about its activities, how come they want peace talks with India?
They separated from India. Stay separated. Why try to be friends now?
How come muslims went to the United Nations and convinced them that Kashmir belongs to Pakistan and the line of control was drawn? Is United Nations insane or criminal?
Even after that the Pakis and Afghanis are not happy and they infiltrate Hindusthan Kashmir and remove all the kashmiri pundits using terror and torture (1984). Now even Hindusthan Kashmir is 90% muslim.
But the religion of islam started in Saudi Arabia. What does islam have to do with India, a Hindu country? How come Afghanistan and Pakistan became terrorist muslim countries? How did that happen? That was Hindu land.
And then visit India. THe islamic influence in India is absolutely mind boggling. The degradation of the hindu culture and society is unbelievable.
Mecca which is barred to all non muslims is absolutely fabulous, clean, systematic, the floors white marble that does not burn your feet etc. Hindus have never been allowed to step into Mecca (No problem, those are their rules). There are notices on all roads leading to mecca. "Non muslims not allowed beyond this point".
Mathura - well what can I say. It was turned to rubble at least 4 times, that is on record, by muslims. Now there is a mosque standing over the original temple of Lord Krishna and the new HINDU temple, built on the side. The stone that is used in the building of the mosque, is from the temple of Lord Krishna, which was destroyed. There are mosques everywhere and slaughter houses in Mathura. Hindus are vegetarians and hinduism does not allow killing. Muslims live in mathura and impose their ways on hindus.
Can anyone tell me how islam and islamic terrorism are not connected?

Baldguy, I don't think that pointing out that the other religions have committed terrorism undermines one's answer. I believe that it is a valid answer. It actually makes the question irrelevant, to point out that it is an inherent thing to each religion. As to whether judaism and Christianity have evolved beyond the savagery, I would just say that is arguable. Certainly, a lot of Israel's "defense" may be considered terrorism, and it is inextricably linked in the mind of many Jews with an us/them mentality, with us being the superior Chosen People. However, It is not the main point of your question to distinguish the other religions.
I think that Islam is indeed not only a religion, but an ideology and a theocracy. However, as Hayaa points out, the teachings on how to treat non-Muslims are often "to treat them with kindness." Islam has contradictions. Again, comparison is I believe appropriate, all religions have them.
The reason that many people do not see the connection you talk about is because it is unfair. And it is not merely unfair because, as most defenders of Muslims point out, because if most Muslims are not terrorists then the connection is not there and you are being unfair speaking of it, but it is unfair at a deeper level. Even for people who see such a connection today, it is incorrect to see it as an inevitable result of the religion. It is a result, in their eyes, of how people of the Muslim faith have been treated. Indeed, Muslims might have been a quiet religion - to avoid the debatable "terrorist' - had there not been the Israeli-Palestinian question. "Terrorism" associated with Islam today, even in Afghanistan (a non-Arab country) can be traced to the Israeli-Palestinian question. In many people's eyes, Israel terrorized the Palestinians and continues to. You may ask how that reinforces resort to Islamism. The Palestinian movement was initially a secular movement. It did not work. Secular Arab Nationalism did not work either. The Arabs - Palestinian included - have not been treated fairly and the world has not responded to their initial often truly intellectual fights. The Palestinians more and more impoverished turned to the only power they knew had to be stronger than Israel and its Western Allies. The Palestinians turned to Allah and to more visceral fighting. In Iran, in Afghanistan, also the masses turned to the only venue in which they could defeat the West, which had been abusing them (the Shah, an American puppet, the Soviets, which may be in the East but seen by Middle Easterners as European). In Islam, they found what they were looking for, an excuse for violence, because - and I do have to point it out again - you will find excuses for violence in every religion. However, the reason it is unfair to see the connection, is to not highlight that resort to violence was defense, not terrorism, not inherently inevitable under Islam. Unfortunately, it is spreading blindly, to where there is no reason for it, and it is lumping all the West/Christians together, as if every Westerner/Christian, even Jew, hated Muslims or abused them. Nonetheless, even if some of us living in the US today did not hate Muslims, as we see that Israel is flattening buildings on their Arab citizens with freely supplied American F-15s and F-16s, we must bear the responsibility and consequences of what our freely elected government is doing.

It is hard to see the connection because George Bush, christian, is dropping bombs on civilian neighborhoods and torturing innocent people. So, those of us who think see that one's religion is not connected to terrorism. We are watching Israel right now - looks like they like the islamists about terror. This doesn't excuse Islam, but it should give you a clue that these behaviors are not tied to any one religion. The Muslims right now have a lot of legitimate grievances over how the west has treated them, starting with the horrific crusades, stealing their land in 1948, stealing their oil, overthrowing their democratically elected leaders (iran 1953), propping up murderous dictators, etc etc etc This is the source of Arab rage, not Islam. (Note that the Idonesian Muslims don't have this atmosphere, nor do the Kosovars.)
Islam is judaism, for god's sake. they are the same people, they have the same faith. There is virtually nothing different in their belief systems. Arabs, not islamics, are anti-israel, not anti-jew. If you think Islam is a bad religion, what do you make of the fact that it has the same god as judaism/christianity, that it includes the same stories in the Koran, up to and including Jesus talking with God.
(all religions are cults.)

Islam isn't ideology ,its a religion. if u think that there is connection between Islam and terrorism why no one realized that except now ,
i mean Islam is known from 1400 , it set up a civilization lasted for hundreds of years ,if there is connection why this connection appeared from the beginning of Islam
why now?
u cant accuse 1,5 billion ppl of terrorism or accuse religion with such actions done by some ppl otherwise u also need to accuse Christianity with same thing cuz of crusade wars ( which were actually wars not few actions of Christians )
u also need to accuse Judaism with terrorism to cuz of what Israel do against humanity in Palestine

I would like to forward the likelyhood that the connection is not made for the peace gain through wishful thinking. The status quo John Q. Public doesn't want to think that There is support for the radical factions in the Quaran. But as many have seen here, it's all over the book!
I think that John Q. Public wants to believe that there are less and less Islamic Extremists in the world, not more and more.
I guess what I am trying to say is that the public wants to believe there will be and end to this.

Being uneducated, believing everything the media says, and there are some people who were already biased against Islam and Muslims that use the events 9/11 to put all Muslims(who follow Islam) in the same category as being terrorists and to validate their hatred.

all religion is an idealogy. The way muslims practice their religion is different to christians, so yes christians will be fearfull of it and will want to kill them all. Nazism? They were filled with christians.
The only reason christians and jews do not commit attrocities in this day and age, is because you dont see that what christians and jews do are attrocities. You have been blinded to the evil of your own people.
Most muslims are no more terrorist that conservitive christians are.
They just pay for it because they are told its for charity. To 'aid' struggling people. If people of all religions actually took it upon themselves to seek truth, then will religion will eventually disapear.
Dont be affraid to question your own leaders. Ask for details.
"Why is it so hard for people to see the connection between Islam and islamic terrorism?" its only hard for 'muslims', and the people that actually know 'muslims'.......but its not hard for blind christian sheep, that dont seek truth.
This is why you will always be confused as to why so many people, never see the connection you apparently do.

It is so hard for people to see the connection between Islam and Islamic terrorism, for the same reason that it is hard to see the connection between Christianity and Christian terrorism like the current bush crusade in Iraq.
They are simply two sides to the same coin. Each is seen as the rational for the terroristic actions of the other. With both sides pointing the finger at the other saying you did it first.
While the average person on both sides is bathed in wave of propagandistic ignorance that seems to vaguely justify what is being done in their names, so long as you don’t look to closely.
Sad isn’t it.
Love and blessings.

"The way it is practiced in most of the world has the net effect of splitting the world into us/them..."
Isn't that what the Christians are doing? I know a lot of Muslims and they are all very peaceful, tolerant people. I'd say any religion has its extremists.
