look at the picture of "Elsie the cow" from Bordens. It is on the milk and the glue...The non-steak is still beef. It can be used in beef flavorings in products such as dog food, beef buillion , soups.

Usually the cow is too old for the meat to be sold to the public. Also, the diet that produces the best milk cows is different from the diet that produces the best beef cows. There is nothing wrong with the cow, Americans are just accustomed to a particular taste and texture in their beef and would find that of a "dried up" dairy cow different. The farmer usually eats the cows himself or gives the meat to friends and family. This is if the farm is small, of course, like ours was. I don't really know what the large farms do with the old cows.

Of course. I like to use dairy cows for other uses as well. Such as:
1. A mount to ride.
2. A cow skin halloween costume.
3. A great punching bag.
4. A large pinatas with dairy delites inside.
5. A high school prank.
6. An indoor pet.
7. A very efficent door stop.
There are also more pleasureable additional uses:
1. A nipple to suck on.
2. Cow tipping.
3. Create a sitcom with cows instead of humans.
4. Make a cow pyramid.
5. Block traffic on the road.
6. Use your imagination, the possibilities are endless.

I was raised on a dairy farm and my dad worked in a meat packing plant. Nothing is wasted on a cow and dairy cows are used for beef the same as cows the are raised specifically for slaughter.
As an aside, I would never eat veal because it comes from calves that are put into pens where they cannot move at all so their muscle doesn't grow - they can't even lay down. They have no sunlight at all and are fed chemical substitutes for milk to keep their meat as white as possible. Then they are killed for veal as babies.

Yes people eat dairy cows. They have a low grade of beef because they are old and well, dairy cows. You will find their beef in things like soup. Maybe a small farmer might spend the money to keep a non producing animal alive but no business minded person would.

Yes, when a dairy cow's production days are over, they typically go to the slaughter house. Normally they spend one year as a heifer (young cow before breeding), then two years as a milker, then they're done. Some breeds can go three years, and of course some small farms decide to keep their cows longer.

No. Cow meat is not used for human consumption, it's far too tough.
Cattle used for meat is usually younger than two years, often even younger than one year.

Cull cows (cows that are no longer wanted) are often used to make hamburger meat leaner. They don't have very much fat at all and they add their meat into the hamburger with meat from younger cattle to make the mix leaner.

I believe I read somewhere that they get ground up into hamburger. Not very appetizing, since most of the cattle in the US and Canada that have gotten Mad Cow disease have been dairy cattle.

no there are dairy cows and beef cows. Dairy usually dont have much meat on them, so they just live out their days.
