There are too many fast food/convience food places in this country for one. There is a McDonald's or Burger King on every corner. People are busy and want something quick to satisfy hunger and the fast food fills the hunger. Also, there are so many desk jobs now that no one gets any kind of exercise. Think about how people looked a hundred years ago when there were no fast food joints and most jobs were manual labor. Obesity was not a problem.

Bad Habits being taught at a young age. Such as eating everything off your plate even if your not hungry anymore, going out to fast food restaurants a lot more, drinking soda more than few times a day.
Focusing on the image and saying its ok but not explaining that in a physical health stand point its not okay. Just pretty much bad habits being taught all over.

I don't think there's a single cause. True, a lack of exercise and an unhealthy diet are certainly contributing factors. But let's face it-we all know of plenty of people who aren't exactly the models of healthy lifestyles, and they aren't overweight. I think that for some people, there must be some sort of brain malfunction that doesn't tell the body that it's time to quit eating. Maybe it's something genetic, too. I truly don't think that it's simply a lack of self-control, because I know of too many people who have sincerely tried to lose weight but just can't seem to do it.

Modern Technology , Is making the world a stay inside world at moment, the kids these days, are now too in love with there play stations / computers / video games.
There is no such thing as playing outside after school and on the weekends, kids these days want to stay inside.
Also the work load given to adults, are causing us to work more and more, and not have time off to take the kids anywhere on day trips

People that are obese use food as a reward program to help replace their need to be loved. They eat because it taste good and want to be nurtured. Most of all out of self pity.

Lack of exercise. People set a pattern in their children by which it's okay to sit inside and play video games or chat online all day and they no longer get out as they once did. They don't get into a habit of exercising which will help them as healthy kids develop into healthy adults.

Two of the main reasons are eating too much of the wrong foods and the lack of exercise to burn off the calories.
Good Luck

Eating everything on your plate
Feeling guilty if you do not finish your meal
Feeling pressure to eat what has been prepared
Eating at a certain time, hungry or not
Giving food as a gift
It's not a meal if it doesn't have meat in it!
