Nothing has an aura - it seems like such, because some minds associate life with some greater force that controls it, thus they believe that life must be controlled by something we can't see.
"Auras" are what we call our perception of others' conscious minds, but it is a mislabeling.
If there were aura's - they would probably serve as a connection device between humans that could be read by other subliminally by our subconscious and tell us what mood another's aura was in so as to act as a precursor warning before action.
Auraight?

All living things do. Here's a way to "feel" auras.
Get two wire clothes hangars and straighten them out. Now, curve down about 8" of one end on both to form a handle. Fist your hands and hold them where the hangars point straight out parallel to each other and to the ground. Keep them still but where they can still swing freely.
Now, have someone walk straight toward you and the hangars from about 10 feet. Then have them hold the wires and you walk toward them. You'll see what occurs when the hangar ends pick up the person's aura. It's pretty cool.
That energy is the aura, the soul. It's a buffer around you so to speak. Some with more developed brains/eyesight can see them without the hangars.

"do all thing have an aura?"
I think that I've seen evidences of auras coming from a particular type of photography. It would appear that all things do have soem sort of energy eminating out from them.
"what is it purpose"
I haven't a clue.
"why cant we sense it"
That is one of "those" questions. If we are going to get into the unknown, we have to forget our typical patterns of speech.
A better way to put your questions is perhaps; "Why am I not sensing it?"
I think that it is possible that we can't. I think it is just as possible that we haven't spent much time trying to. We haven't stretched those 'muscles' so to speak.
Good luck with that.

Yes they do. Inanimate objects are surrounded by a complementary color. Animate beings have auras that reflect their emotional status. Symbols also surround people and are indicative of thinking processes. People do sense them and people do see them. Auras can be seen with practice. Ask someone you know who can see them to spend some time with you explaining the energy fields and etheric bodies, then practice. There is much more in existence than most people allow themselves to see.

Yes all things have Aura with their own specialities and effects.
The person who is calm, cool and serene has his own aura
and the person who is with criminal deeds and thoughts has his own and different aura.
Yogis with a deep knowledge can realise these good and bad auras when they come in contact with.
Even though we the simple and common peoples also can realise the presence of good or bad person by feeling attentively their surrounded aura.

Yes, everything does have an aura ... Try with eyes closed, with extremely sharp awareness, intense involvement, tremendous faith, and deep sense of acceptance. The possibility is enhanced proportionately. Good luck.

AT the root of everything we are, can see, hear, think and do, is pure energy. This whole world and everything on it (physicality) is made up of pure energy and it is all connected by a huge network of interwoven energy.
Auras are just a minute part of the overall network of interwoven energy.
There are high vibrations and low vibrations of energy, the higher resonance we resonate at the more we feel, see or hear on the energetic levels, so some people can see auras.
The root to higher vibrations is regular meditation and reamining in states of peace, calm, happiness etc.

No... and the auras (halos) that you see in medieval paintings of Christ and saints are actually indicitive of the Pagan influences upon Christianity, representing an emanation from the sun god.
