Hi Bruce
Understand that the people you are describing are not the ones people are actually angry with. It’s the fundies and wackos who give the rest of us a bad name. Granted it would be great if these Pseudo Christians had to wear a sign on their foreheads that said I’m a bigot pretending to be a Christian, but they don't.
People just can't tell the difference between a real Christian and an idiot pretending to be a Christian. For this reason when one of us identifies our selves as Christian it is often like slapping a bull in the face with a red flag.
People get sick and tired of the arrogant, holier than everyone else attitude that these screwballs go around projecting. They often make so much noise that they drown out the rest of us who are just concerned with taking care of our families and living our lives the way Jesus asked us to live them.
We need to start speaking up when these fruitcakes are ranting about their dream of superiority and point out to those around us that these people are not Christians at all.
Love and blessings.

I think that your question misstates and misrepresents what is really at issue. I'm reasonably sure that no rational people are 'ticked off' by "...families sho (sic) believe that Christ is their savior, go to church, work hard, make mistakes and sin jus (sic) like everyone else and do their best to raise their kids right."... just like I'm reasonably sure that most everybody gets profoundly annoyed when confronted by "...right wing fundamentalis (sic) wackos."
Christianity is troubling at a far deeper level than that which relates to ordinary people going to church or being pestered and annoyed by fundamentalists. Even at a superficial level, Christianity is irrational... an at a deeper level, it is quite insane.
Consider some of the 'inerrant truths' from the bible:
*Â Â a universe in which all that exists are the earth and heaven
*Â Â solid 'firmament' structure (the sky) seperating the earth from heaven (terrarium earth)
*Â Â talking snakes and donkeys
*Â Â demons chased out of people and into pigs
*Â Â friendly spirits
*Â Â evil spirits
*Â Â walking on water
*Â Â multiplying loaves and fishes
*Â Â people raising from the dead
*Â Â stopping the sun in its tracks
*Â Â parting seas
*Â Â people being bodily sucked up into heaven (which, by the way, lies on the 'other side' of the sky)
*Â Â world-wide flood that drowned the earth to a depth of 40 feet above the tallest mountain
*Â Â creating people from dust bunnies and ribs
*Â Â magical tree of knowledge
*Â Â god speaking from a burning bush
*Â Â ritual cannibalism, by eating god in the form of a cracker.
It is quite evident that in a sane world, if someone were to go around asserting that ANY of those things represented an innate 'truth' pertaining to the nature of existence and reality, that person would end up being locked up in the 'State Farm for the Funny'. Oddly, though, MASS insanity seems to convey some sort of automatic immunity along with it, since hundreds of millions of people assert ALL of these things to be true, and nobody thinks anything of it (well... SOME of us do). Not only are these people NOT locked up, but it is considered to be bad manners... politically incorrect... 'intolerant'... to even call attention to the obvious insanity of these ideas. Yet approximately 87% of the adult population of the USA is INFECTED by what seems to be some sort of insidious brain virus, that is transmitted in the form of information.
How can this NOT be seen as a major problem... considering that this insane belief system has been DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for such historical aberrations as the Dark Ages and such atrocities as the Inquisition, the Salem Witch trials, the Crusades...? (the list goes on, and on, and on.)
So, how is it that the myths, superstitions, fairy tales and fantastical delusions of an ignorant bunch of Bronze Age fishermen and wandering goat herders have come to represent some kind of cosmic 'TRUTH'... without the least bit of credible evidence.
Sorry, but rational people have the moral duty and ethical responsibility to intervene to protect vulnerable minds from being contaminated by Bronze Age myths and wilful ignorance, for the sake of our nation, the world and humanity.
So... it is not a matter of being 'ticked off' (although Christians CAN be most annoying). It is Much, much more serious than that.
NOW do you 'get it'?

I have no problem with Christians like yourself (who I believe to be in the majority). It is the right-wing fundamentalist wackos and legalistic nut jobs that I am opposed to, and not so much because they are Christian, but because they are right-wing fundamentalist wackos and legalistic nut jobs. As long as religion stays away from politics and science, and no-one spray paints "satanist" on my front door, I'm perfectly happy with "live and let live."

Unfortunately, Christians have a bad name because "right wing fundamentalists" and "Legalistic nut jobs" have left a sour taste in the populations mouth. It only takes a few people to ruin or discredit whole ideologies. It is sad how Christians as a whole have to suffer because of those peoples extreme beliefs and actions

I think the vast majority of criticism related to Christianity is against the people you mentioned: right wing fanatics and legalistic nut jobs. I think you're seeing a problem where one doesn't exist, and this adds to the idea that Christians have a persecution complex.

It's because not all Christians are peaceful like yourself. I am a Christian and some people that I know from church, should just stay at home! Some profess to be Christians and can be the most arrogant, obnoxious, and hypocritical people. The people who classify all Christians the same is getting a false picture of all of us and it is not fair because I for one try to practice what I preach. I try to live my life the way you mentioned but some people make it bad for the ones who are trying to live in love and righteousness. May God bless you.

The Bible says the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing. It also says the time will come when you will be hated by all for His name's sake. There's no way out of that; we're simply called to live sinlessly in the power of Christ and to preach the gospel to sinners. We can't worry about our reputation. Hell is at stake. We're not interested in "being right while everyone else is wrong," but if we believe in the reality of hell, aren't we remiss if we don't try to warn others? People hate us for our preaching when we are just trying to warn them of a real hell because we care. And since "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God," there're a lot of people who need to ask themselves a couple of questions about heaven and hell.

It doesn't tick off all people. I believe everyone has choice in what they want to believe. If you choose christianity that is your personal choice and I have no beef with it. Some people - regardless of belief system - just believe their way is the only right way. If you are happy with the way your life is going why let it bother you.

Jesus said that Christians would be hated for His name’s sake (Luke 21:17; Revelation 6:9-11; 20:4).
Those that love Him will be hated. Get used to it and rely on the Lord.

The truth is the world hates God.It is the basic tenant of the Bible.Satan is the god of this world.Christianity puts constraints on what is right and wrong, people by nature do not like this as the nature of man is evil.
Truth is sharp and hard.
