I'm also scared of dogs because when I was little I was with my parents, we were going back to our car, we were just walking down the street, my parents were already in the car and there was a god outside, and it ran for me, i seen it and I started running when I slipped and I looked back at the dog, and seeing the teeth on him made me more scared, my dad ran out and helped, the dog bit him pretty badly, my dad almost died, the dog ended up having ravies, so now i'm peterfied of dogd, I have one of my own that I love, but i'm scared of every dog is isn't my own, so I don't really know how to help you!

Wow!! You REALLY DO have a prob. Why? Because dogs, being closer to nature, automatically sense fear--and they always attack when they sense fear because dogs are very territorial and don't like to share their hunting areas--which I am sure you can understanding, there being only so many rabbits out at any one time, for example.

So, you cannot hide your fear from dogs and after reading this message and knowing now if you did not before that the dog knows that you are cowed, scared and an easy target, you will have just that much MORE fear of dogs.

Which, of course, the dogs will sense even that much more easily because your body is just pumping out that much more fear smell, and are therefore the dog(s) is/are just that much more likely to attack you.

Endless circle, then? Ever escalating chance of a violent dog-attack? Wellllllllll, yes in a general way.

Luckily, it never goes all the way.

At some point, you will buy a gun and begin shooting all dogs in sight just to preserve yourself and that ends the cycle right there.

Unless, a dog somehow crawls in your window at night while you are asleep and attacks you then. So, you had better board up all your windows--which will be very effective because dogs don't know how to use crowbars.

I would say that you need to face what actually caused your fear of dogs. Were you bit at some point in your life or did your mom/dad have the same fear and unconsciously pass this fear on to you with their actions. Is it a fear of being attacked or is a fear of dog "germs"?

To begin with, why not start with holding and petting a young puppy and then gradually move on up to petting friendly adult dogs. Learn a dogs body language and become familiar with the signs that a dog is not to be approached.

Start little by little. Depending on how scared you are...start with just a small dog in the same room, then pet the dog, then meet another dog that is a little larger. You're gonna be scared but you have to be around the dogs while you're scared if you ever want to get over it and you may never get completely over it depending on why you are scared of them in the first place. Ask the dog's owner about the dog's temperment and if they say the dog has never bitten or is not aggressive, you're fine. The dog may be hyper and like to jump on you, but that doesn't mean they'll hurt you. Good luck!

There really is no reason you should be afraid of dogs. Dogs protect you and keep you from hurting yourself. Yes there are some very mean dogs out there but just stay away from them. If you want to get a dog I'd start out with something smaller like a beagle. Hope this helps :)

visit with friends or family that have dogs( well temperated dogs). Talk to them see they have the ability to reason and are not vicious cray uncontrollable animals. Try not to feel too afraid because that scares the dog. Dogs take that as a threat. Don't smile at the dog because showing your teeth is a threat.Don't approach the animal alone. let the dog smell your hand before you touch him then touch him slowly. Do this for a couple of weeks then. try going in public with the person and there dog. Who knows you may end up owning one I have 3of them.

Why are you afraid???? Have you been bitten?
I wound suggest that you find a friend that has a small dog....
Make small visits and become friends with the dog....
Most dogs are friendly and just want to be loved.... I have had a dog all my life and cannot imagine not having one.... they are your truest and most loyal friend. I hope you can overcome your fear, you are missing out on a lot of love.
