As a cyclist, martial artist, swimmer, and runner - hands down running is the quickest most effective workout. It is hard on your legs if you are heavy, but the aerobic benefits are maximized. You can also improve your abilities by running sprints, which cause you to go into the anaerobic workout. This means you are using more oxygen than you are taking in. So, you will have to slow down and catch your breath.
