I thought perhaps it had stop rotating but it is turning round fine so it's not that - also it is an expensive model and only 6 months old

Sounds like a disconnected magnetron... ad would go get it serviced under warranty.

I'm assuming that this is a complete faulure, and not a periodic shutdown... because some microwaves will send pulses rather than have a constant stream.

For example... under 70% power, the Magnetron (the device that sends our the radio waves that stimulate the water molecules in your food) is only on fo 70% of the time... and you can usually HEAR when it shuts off... the light inside goes a little brighter, and the fan seems to go faster.

I hope it's the second rather than the first... but if it's 6 months old, it'll still be under warranty.

Good luck!

You could try turning the power down (say from 600 Watts to 300 Watts). If the power is turned up too high, the outside might cook too fast compared the the center. (Just like when you cook over a regular stove.)

It's time to go shopping for a new one. Tesco's and Asda's sell cheap ones. Or even Comet..
Mine did that and then is just stopped all together.... Half way through a meat and veg pie...

Some microwaves have a built in feature telling you to stir the food. Does yours?

don't use it anymore that for sure. find your warranty and return it. but it sound like the motor could possible be bad in it or something that can cause you much damage if the problem continues.
