First of all if you have been employed over a year you should have applied for FMLA a federal program that protects you from being fired when you take a 3 month unpaid or paid medical leave. If you are not protected, then sorry they can do as they wish. The only choice you have is to pay cobra which will take over when you lose your insurance, however, the premiums are riduculous. Most people cannot afford cobra. That is why it is so important to obtain long term disability at the work place or from a private company. They have to continue to treat you, finish your treatments and when you go back to work set up a payment plan. Also after you are without income for about 6 weeks, you may qualify for "charity funds" at your local hospital.Your health is more important than any job.Good Luck

Impossible to say. You say that you're still "seeking treatment". Are you actually receiving treatment?
How long do you have to receive treatment until the decision has to be made whether you need surgery or not?
An employer will look at the whole picture in deciding whether or not they will let you go. If you exhaust your medical leave and return to work without change, they will be suspicious and even if they don't let you go, the next time you go on med leave, they most likely will. So really, it depends on what you're doing at the moment to get healthy.

nobody can speak for your employer and what they may or may not do. As such, you should probably fully understand your employment rights. I suggest you read up on FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) to see what is required of the company under your circimstances. FMLA is available on line at the Department of Labor (Link below).
If you are laid off, they do have to offer you insurance via COBRA. You have to pay the monthly fee yourself, but you can get insurance that route.

It really depends on where you live and work at before any one could tell you if they could let you go. The laws are different in each state. check in your work policies hand book it will tell you reasons for letting you go and when they apply
