Swedish is the official language but most younger and middle-age people know enough English to communicate about basic things. Swedes begin English around grade 3 and also, beginning in about 6th grade, are required to take another language besides Swedish and English--usually Spanish, French or German. Sweden has admitted several groups of immigrants so one hears other languages as well.

In addition to the answers above, note the very interesting fact that Sweden, as well as Finland and Norway and some of Russian Karelian, has what is probably the old surviving language with continuous histroy in Europe: Sami or Lapp language.

In addition to the answers that have already been given, I'd imagine that there would be some Norwegian and Finnish speakers, since Sweden borders those two countries (and since Norwegian is extremely closely related to Swedish)
