There's a total of 3 years of money to use (use it wisely, if you take a 2-week training class for $100 and claim that, $100 is all you're reimbursed. VA keeps the rest of what they would have given you. Go full-time and get over $1K a month reimbursed). Working on my Master's now, your husband is doing the right thing. Get him to go FULL TIME though in order to maximize his results. The VA is counting on him to squander it on little things, not use it all, or forget about it entirely after he's out. Most people do. BTW this is a benefit, if his work pays for his college, it's money in his pocket. If he gets a scholarship, that's more money. Budget correctly though, save the extra money for extra college. It gets more expensive for successive degrees.
http://www.vba.va.gov/ will give you the whole story.

okay, but consider this.. that $100 a month for twelve months works out to $1200.. and for that $1200, the GI BIll will reimburse a LOT more than that once he is attending school full time. He could conceivably end up with a $30,000 education for that $1200.
Take full advantage of the 100% tuition reimbursement program while he's AD.. they just upped the number of credits per year, too. if he kncoks out a 2 year degree while active, he could then use his GI Bill to finish up a Bachelor's and get a good start on a Masters.
I think the 2 year waiting period is more because of initial training commitments. They normally aren't allowed to take courses on their own time while still in training for their jobs. They want all the studying to be done on THEIR stuff..heheheh

The $100/month is for the GI Bill. How and when to use that can be answered through contacts in his command. The "free" college offered is 100% tuition for up to 16 credit hours per year. Link to www.dfas.mil for more information.

100 dollars come out for 1 year but you get 15,000 after he gets out for military. when I joined is was 10,800 I used it to join the bricklayers apprentice program. I got an extra 400 a month for 3 years.
I guess you are right you pay 1200 and the rest is free. Its well Worth it.

No, but tell him he has 10years to use it after his date discharge/retirement. Also make sure he gets the money per month, its 827.00 as of now for full time in school per month. With dependants more money, the 827 is if he is by himself.

Yes, that is true. I had to pay for mine, and it doesn't cover all college expenses. Especially if you attend a University.
