Why do you suppose I don't practice any type of religion? I believe there are a lot of messed up religious "laws" that can never be found in the bible that people live by! My sister in law just left the Amish church to join a Mennonite church which is the same thing from what she was used to but she can now use electricity, plumbing, use and own a phone and drive a car to name a few...does that make sense to any of you bible readers out there? I would rather live by my own morals of not telling everybody else what to believe or do because of a book thanks! I don't mean to offend anyone but I just can't handle the extremes of religion that I have seen by being married to an ex-Amish man (meaning my in-laws are still Amish) and having a best friend who is catholic! The experience has been quite an eye opener!

The Bible does NOT require Christians and Messianic Jews to give 10% of their incomes; this was an OT requirement for Jews only. However, many believers are required to tithe because they've been coerced by the clergy (through greed or ignorance) into thinking they must; some are even told that God will not bless them financially unless they do. Nothing could be further from the truth.
For folks not aquainted with the concept, "tithe" means "a tenth part of." Abraham was the first documented "tither," as referenced in Genesis 14:20; however, the Bible doesn't state he ever tithed again. The Mosaic Law required Jews to give a tenth part of their increase to God's Temple (Leviticus 27; Numbers 18:21 and beyond; Deut. 14). Why? So the people would become used to giving to God, instead of only taking. It served to shift their focus away from accumulating wealth only for themselves. The peoples' tithes were given to the Levites as part of their "inheritance," since the Levites didn't inherit any of the land. In turn, the Levites had to tithe a tenth part of their personal incomes. The remainder was used to maintain the Temple, purchase Temple supplies and offerings, feed the poor, and even fix roads and walls. The tithe was to be kept in the Temple's storehouse.
With the New Covenant under Jesus, Messianic Jews (and Christians, indirectly) are not bound by the strict tithe concept. First, it would be impossible to tithe properly nowadays, because the Temple no longer exists. A local church is never equated with the Temple in the NT. Second, the clergy is NOT the same as the Levites; the Levitical system was done away with when Jesus fulfilled the Law and made us all priests.
Instead of tithing, Christians and Messianic Jews are expected to use their money, time and other resources to further God's purpose. We are expected to give to charities, support our local church, pay our pastor, etc. as a replacement for the strict tenth tithe. If a believer gives ten percent, that's admirable, but it's not required. Each is required to give as he or she may prosper. If a believer is unable to give any money, but instead gives of his or her time, God recognizes that. Jesus said, "whatever you do for the least of these, you do for me." That hits the heart of the NT concept of giving to God. It's not all about money -- it's about love for Him.

Genesis 14:20
And blessed be [ Or And praise be to ] God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
Genesis 28:22
and [ Or house, and the LORD will be my God, 22 then ] this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth."
Luke 18:12
I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.
Malachi 3:10 (Tithe means tenth)
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

It does not. In the OT it was a law for """JEWS""" only. In the NT for Christians there is no set amount. The Church is supposed to operate off of the offerings of the congregants. The church is not supposed to be in any kind of business. The tithe for the Christian is to be what ever the Lord impresses you to do. It may be only 01% for you, for me it may be 100%. It depends on your situation and what God tells you to do. If God tells you that your tithe is 0 (zero), then for ou it is nothing. The amount is not set.

No where that is a teaching of the churches.
When they were to give a tenth of everything in Leviticus and others it was taxes. Money donated for the public good.
They now make it sound like it was for religion. But it was customary for kings to make the people give a tenth of their earnings for taxes.
Samuel said the king will require you to pay taxes of a tenth
Judges didn't get paid. With this tenth they amassed great armys to protect the people so they said, we would rather pay taxes and have people to protect us. Also the Kings lived pretty good on it to.

It does not say that.
It says 10% of your increase. I posed that question before and the 'Christians' made all kinds of inane reasons why it means money.
I think it could means a side of beef, a free shoe repair or anything that is not cash.
Do they really believe Jesus would approve of that policy? Jesus walked everywhere, the pastor gets on his own plane!!
The thieving minister only wants money so he could live in luxury. He calls himself God, because he threatens them with bad luck if they do not give money to God.
BTW - God never gets even 1 cent of the tithes, the pastor gets it all.

There is a scripture in Micah that said that but when Jesus came to preach a new covenant message that 10% was eliminated. The old way of dealing with temple support was done away with. Now you can give from your heart. Jesus said your left hand should not know what your right hand is doing.

Probably in any of the versions that the church wrote...I like the old joke whose punchline was "I'll throw my money up in the air and any of it that god wants, he can keep"...LOL!
There are so many more worthy causes in the world people could put their hard earned money toward, than the place where they go listen to mythology every week...how many diseases could all that money have found a cure for by now? *shakes head*
