The modern fridge has a dehydrating effect on its contents. This will dry out the cork, damaging the contents of the bottle and shortening the shelf life of the wine to, I don't know, a year or less.
Those very expensive and typically glass-doored wine fridges control the humidity as well as the temperature and don't go much cooler than about 42 F.
Wine is traditionally stored in a cellar or cave or other underground room for TWO reasons:
- constant temperature at about 55 F conducive to long-term storage and aging
- more humidity than above ground, so as to prevent the cork from drying out from the top down
A bottle of white or sparkling wine could be put in the fridge for cooling just before drinking, red wine should never be stored in a fridge other than the a.m. wine fridge. Any white wine with a natural cork should not remain in the fridge for more than a few hours.
I do keep a couple of bottles of $4 Chardonnay in the fridge at all times. They have those synthetic corks and are the oenological equivalent of MRE meals-in-a-foil-envelope anyway and are fairly immune to damage. They stay there for less than 2 or 3 weeks.
If wine of whatever color comes in a box or gallon jug then by all means keep it in the fridge, and keep it cold!
In any case the answer is 2 or 3 weeks at my house for cheap Chard or box wine. Premium white or bubbly only stays there 5 hours max.

Wine does not require refrigeration. If it is sealed properly by the seller it will last a very long time. Think about all the wines that were made in the 1940's that are still good today. The only reason for refrigerating is so that when you want to open it is cold.

I agree with iteachemjudo, but a few years depending on the quality of the wine. White wines are generally supposed to be consumed young. As long as you don't expose it to too many temperature changes it should last for several years. But goldnknt is right too, there are no guarantees it will be drinkable. You never know what temperature or light the wine was exposed to before you received it, so there is no telling where it is in it's process of fermenting. Still, personally, I would go with 2-3 years as long as it is a quality (not necessarily expensive, quality) bottle. IMHO

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.
According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

Reseal the bottle with a zyliss bottle stopper, keep in the refregerator...Do consume it within a few weeks.
Go buy several cheeses, some french bread, and invite some dear friends, and soon the bottle will be empty.
