Hezbullah, a terrorist group , holds part of south Lebanon and has used the area as a rocket launching site for about 6 years.
The rockets, with explosive, ball bearing filled warheads , are fired at civilian targets.
These are unguided area fire weapons that act like a huge shotgun when they land .
Also , Hezbullah has been raiding across the border, killing people and kidnapping soldiers they capture alive .
The U.N. has demanded that Lebanon disarm and disband Hezbullah but Lebanon is too weak militarily to do it .
Isreal unable to get results thru the U.N. finally had enough and launched attacks to destroy the rockets and drive Hezbullah from the border.
You can tell that things are not going good for Hezbullaha , Syria , who supplies Hezbullah with weapons .is calling for a cease fire. Which would be to Hezbullah's benifit, not Isreal's.

Because Lebanon is allowing Fascist to attack Israel. Everyone says Lebanon has a right to attack Israel to defend themselves, but the same people\countries are wanting the international communicate to strip that right from Israel.
All Lebanon has to do, to preempt Israel, is to capture and destroy the rockets that the fascists are launching against Israel. If Israel goes in, in force, it will be to stop the Constance attacks by the Fascist.
BTW I am Catholic not Jewish. I would love to see the US fly high support for Israel from a haft a dozen carrier battle groups. We have asked Israel to be patient, and they have. It is time to unchain them and let them take care of business with our backing. They have never turned their back on us like every middle east country has, including the recently liberated Iraq.

Israel is NOT attacking lebanon. Israel is attacking the terrorists of Hezbollah who are hiding in civilian locations in Lenanon and launching rockets from civilian locations in Lebanon. The cowardly Hezbollah terrorists are conducting their terrorist attacks from civilian homes, hospitals, schools, churches, etc. forcing Israel to defend themselves against them by returning fire to those locations.

well thats a really long answer so i'll give you the short version. This time it's beacause lebanese militants or hezbollah radicals attacked an Israeli military group and kidnapped one of the soldiers. Then, a week later, they kidnapped another soldier.Israel is try to get their people back.
