Civil Rights, and Civil Wrongs. Some things are right, and some things are wrong. The Reverend brought, 'passive civil disobediance' to America, much the same way Gandhi did in India. It's a lot like Jesus, working on the Sabath. Clearly a violation of the 'letter' of the Law, but perfectly good for the 'Spirit'. Those who witness a sit-in, or other misdemeanor acts, tend to judge themselves. And that changes the perspective of a society as a whole, from a 'me' orientation, to 'us'. We may have got here on different boats, but we're in the same boat now...I can't remember who said that...

Where is their civil rights in the Bible? Or human rights of any kind?

Esp when in the Bible their are instructions for slaves to obey their master, not run away and try to get freedom. And there is no condemnation of slavery in the Bible.

I have nothing but respect for Martin Luther King.
However, I think when he said those things he was just interpreting bits of the Bible according to what he believed about civil rights, not what the Bible actually said about civil rights.

what's your issue with martin luther king? why do you keep trying to put the guy down when many people already believe in him that he was great. nobody really cares who is right or wrong as long one is happy. i think you are not.

Martin Luther King kept his faith in something greater than himself. He understood scripture was meant for all of us...not just a few. This was his springboard for equality "...for we are all created equal in the eyes of God". He was declaring his Christianity openly. I hope this answers your question.

I don't doubt it was true for him, and I have deep respect for what he did.

I doubt, however, whether it is the only way to a decent humane behaviour. I know from personal experience that it is quite possible to have a conscience without having a religion.
