Feeling tired after you eat depends on the meal you have consumed. If it is all of the time than it could possibly be a sign of blood sugar problems, possibly diabetes. Some times if we eat meals that are too high in carbohydrates, our body produces insulin to remove the excess sugar and no our blood sugar gets low causing us to be sleepy. There are a few tests your health care professional can do most notably a "fasting blood glucose test" which will help you see if in fact you are hypoglycemic.

I'd suggest reading some info on the web that discusses the importance of eating high-low glyceic foods. The high glycemic foods are the ones that give us a lot of sugar quickly and cause a spike in glucose levels. Over time, these foods can cause havoc on our digestive system. Low glycemic foods are the safer choices that release the carbohydrates over a longer period of time.

The only time I feel tired after eating is when I eat too much food. The proper way for us to feed our bodies is much smaller portions 5 or 6 times a day instead of 3 bigger meals.

try to get fat intake and protein thorugh other foods. I get fat from Peanuts as well as protein and black olives are a great source of fat as well. If you take so much protein and not enough fat, it will affect you severely in the nervous system. Thats a big problem with third world countries. There has to be a balance. You may want to get more energy from carbs such as wheat bread, sugar and such. Being a veggitarian has advantages but only when you provide your body the proteins, fats and carbs that it needs from other foods. Right now your body is telling you there is something really wrong. Fix it!

I was taught that the blood supply is increased to the stomach when it is full. The central nervous system has a decrease of blood flow, as many other areas are affected, and it causes a tired reaction.

This is the simple and short version ;)

After eating more blood is going to the stomach -> the brain gets less oxygen. of course its normal. the ancient Romans had a phrase: Plenus venter non studet libenter = A full stomach doesn't like to study. (No joke!). So its normal you get sleepy after eating ;)

the blood goes to your gut after you eat so i think to help digest effectively you feel tired so you dont movea round as much because if you so a lot of movement the blood goes to your muscles instead of your gut
(which is why you shouldnt swim after you eat)

after a meal, your body produces a little bit of extra insulin. when this kicks in, it actually causes your blood sugar to drop a little bit. your blood sugar drops a little bit about 1 to 2 hours after a meal, and that makes you feel sleepy.

because your blood rushes to your stomach and intestines to help digest the food and aid absorption, hence blood supply to your brain is temporarily reduced.

digestion uses more energy and oxygen than exercise, so you need to eat less at your mealtime to avoid exhaustion!
