Why does the Christian or muslim feel the need to try and convert people to their religion (I've seen more Christians actively do it in the USA than muslims, I have not seen jews do it period)....if you tell them not interested..they say crap like "you won't be saved" and that stuff how come they can't live and let live..and respect peoples rights to practice what they want?

Because everyone likes to believe that they are always right, and that their way is the only way. We don't have nearly enough tolerance, compassion, and open-mindedness in the world.

Christians are interested in other Christians who live the way they do. Period. In other words, the might act like they have this need to offer salvation to the world, but as soon as you start thinking for yourself, they decide you are going to hell. Christians believe that Jesus is the only true way to heaven and that all other religions offer false teachings -- meaning, if you don't believe in Jesus (the way they do) then you are going to hell, regardless of how moral and good you are.

So, if a person doesn't believe in Jesus, the Christians feel they have a duty to bring people to conversion. And from that moment on, you can spend all of your money on whatever the church tells you to buy!

That seems to be a major tenet of any religion... the idea of forcing their beliefs on others.

In high school, there was this girl that would go around damning other girls to Hell because we wore pants/shorts, cut our hair, wore make-up, etc... eventually, I told her that she was going to Hell because she was passing judgment upon others and if she really held Christian beliefs, the only one that could pass judgment was God. She finally started leaving me alone.

Tell them you don't care, tell them you are quite happy with your current set of beliefs, thankyouverymuch... or when they say "You won't be saved", try being witty and say something like "Good, then I won't end up in the same place as you."

Whille I am not religious I am amazed by the amount of people, also on this forum, that obviously cannot live with the fact that there are such people as Atheists. I do not mind if people are religious, even though I think they are in error, but I do mind if people shutt themselves off from all other opinions.

Most Middle Eastern theology are cults intent upon global conquest. The sales pitch, the guilt trip, the threat of Divine Retribution, the threat of Eternal Torture; these are all devices used to spread their message of social conformity and obediance to their Authority. Once you are a convert, they usually loose interest in you and try to find someone new to pimp their spirituality to. They are like pimps with a whore to sell you.

~~it's not always so much that the other point of view isn't respected as the zeal takes over.... example, did you ever get the best gift ever? how excited were you? didn't you just want to tell anyone and everyone about your gift?... the Christian and the Muslim look at what they have as the best gift ever, and just wish to share with anyone and everyone about the one thing they feel is the best gift they ever recieved.... and even more so, because they believe this gift is available to everyone, they want to share the fortune of this gift.~~

I agree that we should respect each others religion but I do feel we have the right to defend our own religious beliefs and to share with others. I believe in teaching not preaching. I actually like to learn about others beliefs or religious views.

Unfortunately, i can't really answer you're question, but seems like Christians in America are very different from the ones in the UK, very very different. (but then that's just me) i know plenty of Christians and none of them do things like in America, i guess it's just how you're told to do things.
i know at my Church we are told to respect other peoples beliefs and values and not ram things down people's throats at it, as you have proved, does nothing. also i don't know of any Christians where i live and further afield who evangelize around the streets, we keep ourselves to ourselves but nonetheless spread the word, through things like the Alpha course,(very, very effective), doing good things for the community, like being a lifeline in time of trouble, particularly reaching out to adults through children, etc etc.

all you can do is respect them even though they don't respect yours. Just say god bless or whatever you want..I'm not trying to be funny but sometimes you gotta go with it, because if they see that they got a rise out of you they will continue to do it. BUT if you just smile and not let it bother you, YOU win. good luck

It's one of the symptoms of having with the mental illness of religion that you try to spread the infection to others.
