I've had Gout for 18 yrs. so listen up. I get in my ankles, wrists & elbow once in awhile. Some people are lucky because they only get in their Big Toe, which is a small joint compared to th ankle, wrist, & elbow. I broke my face in a motocycle accident, 4 places, & it wasn't nearly as painful as my Gout. You can take a 300mg tablet of Allopurinol once/day . Allopurinol is a strong drug, it spreads out the uric acid & crystals so they don't all clog up in one joint. Oh by the way do you know what Gout Crystals look like? Do you know what a little girl's jacks toys looks like, kinda like those pokey weeds that get stuck on your pants leg,Well under a magnifying glass those needles are sharper than razor blades & there are a lot of points & there are a lot of crystals. Now try throwing several of those right between the smooth round & cupped & lubricated joint. They always form in joints. It feels like 1000 sharp razors or needles are poking & slicing up your joints. Milk Thistle 3 tablets/day help also. Every Health Food
Store has it. It cleans your blood.Black Chery Concentrate also works,$10/bottle just like the Milk Thistle. At the first twinge(you know what I mean)as soon as uou feel that stifness, chug some of that cherry conc. & take some Motrin(Ibuproren) only Motrin Works for me. Last resort, go to the hospital & get a 60mg. shot of "Torridol" it's similar to motrin but there is no was to get that much Motrin in your system that fast. I used to get Morphine & Demerol shots, Sometimes 2 rounds B4 I lefr the Hospital. I've been to emergency about 20 times in the last 15 years.Crack cocaine, Marijuana. beer/red wine sweetbreads(you know innards, gizzards, liver, rich gravies, Seafood, oysters ,lobster, crab, & salmon also I think, oh yeah, legumes(beans) Gout is a protein disease. Your body can't breakdown all of the protein, so keep the consumption of protein moderate. The biproduct after your body doesn't break all the protein down turns into urich acid then collects in your joints & causes pain worse than Women's childbirth, & a woman w/ gout told me this. Good luck, I hope I didn't scare you!NSAIDS work also like Naproxen & Indocin(I reccommend Indocin except these tear up your stomach lining. I'm fine but I have an Iorn stomach, I took Indocin for 10 yrs. There is another drug that works it's called Colchicine, I used to take Colchicine and Indocin at the first sign of an attack, just like a cold if you don't catch it right away & keep walking on it you have to go the whole 3days -a week.Oh by the way don't take more than 6 or 7 Colchines once an hour just like it says on the bottle or you will havr the worst Diarreha that you ever had, or ever will have in your whole life. All of this is 100% true. I've been through all this! Take care of yourself.By the way Asparagus isn't good either. All you have to do is eat a moderate, balanced diet, no problem, I haven't had problems in years.

Dietary changes can help reduce uric acid levels in the blood. Since purine chemicals are converted by the body into uric acid, purine rich foods are avoided. Examples of foods rich in purine include shellfish and organ meats, such as liver, brains, kidneys, and sweetbreads. Researchers have reported, in general, that meat or seafood consumption increases the risk of gout attacks, while dairy consumption seemed to reduce the risk! Protein intake or purine-rich vegetable consumption was not associated with an increased risk of gout. Total alcohol intake was strongly associated with an increased risk of gout (beer and liquor were particularly strong factors).

The best thing to do is go to your physician for a standard blood test. It will include a TSH measurement, which will tell your physician if your thyroid is misbehaving. Additionally, the correct term for enlargement of the neck resulting from thyroid problems is a "goiter," not "gout." Just thought you might want to have the terms correct. There isn't anything you can do in terms of "cleansing" yourself before you visit the doctor - just get the blood test done... it's simple... and usually the treatments for thyroid problems are simple and painless - many are often as easy as taking pills once a day!
