No matter how old we get we will always remain sensitive to the negative comments our parents make about our choices, habits and so on. How do you cheer yourself up after such an episode?

It's her job to guide you in the right direction. Instead of feeling bad about her role in your life try to consider it as helpful hints. You don't have to do what she wants every time but you should consider her comments as if she was your conscience. It's not a good idea to assume that you are always right. Keep an open mind and your relationship with your mom will improve. Her input is important even if you sometimes don't like it.

properly i'm a divorced, unmarried mom now, yet even as i changed into married I felt like a unmarried mom too! no longer a lot has replaced in my ordinary jobs between then and now, i'm nonetheless responsible for each thing. My ex-husband made little or no $ (convinced I confident comprehend a thanks to %.'em) so i did not experience a lot of a economic loss. the purely aspect I lossed changed into the strain of a foul courting, so i imagine I honestly have it a lot less confusing now! be at liberty you get to be a stay at homestead mom, it gained't very last continuously, so have a good time with it. only imagine in case you had to attend to each and every of the ordinary jobs you do now AND carry down an entire-time pastime!

Be grateful that your mother is sharing her opinions with you. After all, isn't it much better to know her distaste about something rather than her keeping secrets from you? If she keeps her negative opinions to herself, and you keep provoking her anger with things she doesn't like, how long do you think it will be before she cracks and throws a fit directed at some poor, innocent dolt who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time?

I know it is hard to realise, but she probably makes those comments because she loves you. Otherwise, she may not bother. She does not realise that she may hurt you -she is busy with stuff etc-, -she cares so much about you, she wants things different for you, or whatever.
Maybe you want to tell her (nicely if you can, then y o u teach her!): "mum, what you just said is not very nice /makes me feel this or that. I know you did not mean it, but it is tough for me". You get the idea.
Parents always want the best for their children, but being human, they don't always act the best they could. We all need to learn.
So if you know that, and you just take it for what it is and decide if you want to take her advice or not, then you''ll be ok.

Just remember, they are only human, they too once made mistakes...
Next time your mother points something out & trys to make you feel bad about it. Point out that she made mistakes in her past & that she should allow you to make your own mistakes.
Don't allow this to overcome you, I have seen many mother/daughter relationships end due to past feelings that were never resolved.
