i read yemeni jews were forced to wear sideburns but later they started wearing with pride. is this true?

There is no specific reference toshow that the Jews in Yemen were forced to wear sideburns.However,the Muslim conquest of Yemen changed Jewry in this area forever. Jews were reduced to 2nd class citizens. They were required to pay a poll tax, a standard tax for Jews, Christians and other protected peoples in the Muslim world. They did not have much contact with other Jewish communities. Over the years their culture took on similarities to Arab culture Side burns was a distinctove Arab practice.
