It used to be that doctors are to write badly on purpose to make sure no one else can read their diagnosis and prescriptions just to keep their trade secrets ... what is their excuse now?

I think they take a required course in college, unknown to most of the world, that teaches them the basics of scribbling. With this knowledge, they go out into the world and make life difficult for pharmacists. Fortunately, the pharmacists also take a class in college, that teaches them how to read said scribble.

It all works out in the end.

There are several reasons people (doctors included) have poor hand writing. Some people just never developed good writing skills. Intelligent people sometimes have the problem of the hands keeping up with their brain, too much coffee can give you the jitters, and depending how many people a doctor sees and has to write orders for day after day, they tend to get weary of writing orders. I work in an ICU with sick sick patients and lots of doctors, and they will write page after page of horrific chicken scratch, and then I am supposed to interpret it. And a lot of times it's me that ends up writing the orders, and they come by and sign it later. Some hospitals are getting or already have a system for doctors to enter orders on the computer, so the order is easy to read. We had a class for handwriting improvement at our hospital last year, and even though certain people's writing was especially atrocious (and they knew it) those doctors were offended at the suggestion of such a class. The nursing staff gave one doctor a calligraphy pen that would only write a certain way, which improved his writing a lot. And some doctors actually have good handwriting, or print things out.

They are for the most part right brained...(proving) and they have little time but for attention and to be needed..... I have such little respect for them a time has passed...and they are quite mercenary...Here is a sample of what I mean..take you next few RX's and photo copy them...take the copies to someone ..and there are MANY who do handwriting analysis..you Will be amazed at the responses you receive...it will show basic character, guilt, desire, shortcomings and predominant attitude of humanity or lack of same said.....usually I have found it to be the latter.....I failed shorthand and picked up a calligraphy pen and was a natural..I do NOT like to fail...communication is compelling to me. Your basis Doctor visit is by stats nationwide, 8 minutes long..and if you speak journalistically...they are cold...if you speak in metaphors they will think you're off your head...I run between the two and insist upon TIME..they are nothing but servants who are to treat us. For now, go to the handwriting it is as good as a finger print..they are NOT artists./..and a lot less into it for the sake of humanity..they are scientists.... I will lay this at your feet knowing i am on the precipice of pissing quite a few people off.....so what? I know I am right...as well they do NOT want it to be known what the alleged secret to Latin is...and often even a Pharmasict will have to call to figure it out.....Well you asked and this is my reply....BTW some of my best friends are in ther medical profession, and those with REAL HUMANITY have taken on board what I have said and all but two agreed. Thsi may mean nothing to you or anyone ....hence I replied.....Hope this gives you at least a slant on the possiblity of discerning what the hell they are doing......BTW lastly..isn't it interesting that the most bombastic of doctor's do NOT have priviledges for the hospitals? They do NOT want to pay the insurance. PROVEN..... in any event take care and think about it.....handwriting analysis is a fabulous thing to know about. Be Well.... and the apple a day thing is not true....but it ws a great tag line to getus to eat our spinach.....I am laughing now....Bye.

the actual reason that medical doctors have writing that couldn't be legible to non-medical doctors is because even as they go by medical college, they might want to write notes very immediately. even as they're sitting by their classes taking notes, they do no longer have time to verify that their handwriting is pretty and neat, they might want to be aggravating about getting the archives down. Professors educate very quickly in medical college and they don't hardship about in case you wrote the notes or no longer because their pastime is to provide you the archives; it is the coed's responsibility to verify that they have got the archives. So, after years of writing a lot information so immediately, the handwriting purely sticks.

Doctors are always in a hurry and many of them just don't take the time to write things down legibly.

We're exhausted from writing so many prescriptions. Too much quantity affects our quality.
