MMA has no governing body to dictate rules or regulate fights. Thus the UFC and PRIDE are just companies that have their own MMA competitions. It's kind of like professional wrestling. The WWE is a company that markets professional wrestling but doesn't not recognize wrestlers under contracts from other companies as official contenders for their titles. Who ever pays the most will usually attract the better fighters. In the case of the UFC, their coverage in the US is a whole lot better than PRIDE, K-1, or SHOOT fighting thus recognition is often more important to MMA fighters than money.
Dana White, president of the UFC can dictate pretty much anything he wants to in the UFC as long as the fighters are willing to sign contracts with the UFC. This is why he needs to be loyal to fighters like Shamrock and Gracie who helped put the UFC where it is today. White and Shamrock don't really get along but White knows that Shamrock is one of the original UFC name fighters. Gracie is past his prime but Dana White knows that Gracie is responsible for evolving the UFC from a tough man competition to a legitimate sport. This is why Gracie and Shamrock still fight in the UFC, that and they still have some drawing power.

Pride FC will kill those weak UFC fighters. They have more technique better ground and stand up game. Last UFC was a waste. The fighters had no clue what they were doing. Look at Orlawski. Jab jab jab ....straight. ALmost the whole fight. Dude you are fighting pro do something else. And if Tim fights like that with Fedor or any other heavy weight and you would get killed. Their only good middle weight is that canadian guy St. Pier. Take the middle weight of Pride and that is it he will fall on his knees. Now we will see who has the best fighters now that Silva will fight Chuck. That will be great fight. When Chuck went to Pride he got killed by Quinton jackson. He sent Chuck to the hospital. Pride fighters are better to watch and more exciting fighters.

I try to watch both as much as I can. I have seen some pretty wicked bouts in PRIDE but UFC is actually starting to have so much crossover with PRIDE that it won't be long before the difference is minimal. The fights from one count in the other, they are both sanctioned. The only thing I like better about UFC is that they are playing a lot of the past fights regularly in Spike. I also love the Ultimate Fighter series. Even though most of the guys on there are already in UFC in some form or another.
It is all about entertainment and Dana White is obviously cued in to that and has truly capitalized on it. Good for him.

A lot of the people I talk to that watch MMA all think that Pride is better than the UFC. I personally like them both I don't think that one is better than the other. I like the UFC because of the octagon cage but I like pride because they tend to match up their top fighters with other top fighters. UFC tends to give their top fighters a few cans which could also be said about Pride too.
I don't know their all good in my book I just LOVE MMA! Can't we all just get along.

I like watching both, but there are many fighters from Pride that would like to see fight guys in the UFC.
But your right MMA is Really big in Japan. I think the fighters are more recognized and paid better over there.

Pride fighters are just as good, if not better than ufc, the fighters are much more explosive. The ufc hipes its fighters up to much. Also the ufc is cheaper than cheap, dana white is a piece of crap. Either way I watch for the Martial artists not the organizations, I hope both organizations keep doning well.

the UFC is an americanized, sports entertainement.its american so naturally people are going to like it more. PRIDE and UFC all contain talented individuals. But still capatalize on people beliveing that these are the ultimate fighters. They should be called, american kick boxing and brazilian jujitsu cross, not MMA. Thats a joke 75% of the people in both leagues know only those to comibnations, making it its stupidly narrow, i wish we could see people that knew kung-fu or karate, or older forms of self defense. It's great that tehy can get 40 year old men with huge beer guts to watch that crap but why not try and attract the people that count ther martial artists that can show the world what true dedication, discipline, and pain is. I understand they need to make money to but where is societys morals today when you got everyone watching shows were they jsut beat teh piss out of every one rather than a tournament where the people know what they are doing and respect there opponents because of there dedication to get where tehy want to be. societys mind is crap and everyone has to learn UFC and PRIDE are not martial arts or shows where people use martial arts, there anotehr athletic way to watch to men grab each otehr and beat each other up, big deal ide liek to see some real talent in there rather tahn guys that just sit there and lift weights all day and than go pound on some one smaller than them in their gyms to make themselves look tougher.

I like UFC. Because I'm american and my cable tv shows some live ufc events, it's available to me more so than pride. I think pride fighters are just as good as ufc fighters and probably even better.
