My favorite wine is Burgundy. I use it in cooking also. I do prefer other wines with other meals, but Burgundy is pretty universal, that I think it goes well with any meal. I have gotten drunk off of wine before when I was a teenager, but I never set a goal to get drunk on wine now. To be honest I don't have getting drunk as a high priority in my life.

There are just so many wines -- and a new vintage comes along every year - that it's be very restrictive just to have one favorite.
And of course you pick a wine that you think will go well with the meal you're having. You don't want to drink the same wine with every meal.
As for drinking wine to get drunk, no way. I cannot understand why anyone deliberately wants to get drunk, although of course when you start drinking and are still tryingto find out your limits you sometimes unfortunately find them by getting drunk. But for most people its something they learn in their first year of drinking, and then never suffer again.

In the summer and when I am out I tend to drink a dry white wine. If i am sat outside in a beer garden in the sun I drink a nice rose wine. when it's winter at home I will drink a nice red wine.
I don't drink wine to get drunk, but sometimes it's so nice that you drink a lot of it and getting drunk is inevitable!
A wine hangover has to be the worst thing thought, a banging headache and a very dry mouth. I wouldn't recommend it!

damn that pontac dude is uptight. I drink to get drunk, wine is a very chatty and happy drunk. I drink for the flavor of the wine and how it goes with my meal. you could spend a lifetime trying to learn about wine , but I've learned a good lesson, go with what taste good to you. try some different types and price ranges and find what you like. there is some really decent wines from southeastern australian, a bottle runs about 7.99 to 11.99. also some good wine from Chile in the same price range. wine drinking doesn't have to be for wine snobs

I drink any wine - I cannot even distinguish among them... but sometimes it tastes bitter and that's what I do not like... we drink wine to get drunk because it's cheaper here in the Philippines - especially those from Chile...

Of course depends on the meal ..... for dessert I like best a port like Rare Souzao Port from Paul Masson/California .... and with fish I like any dry white wine .... and with meat any dry red wine .... but never I would appreciate to get drunk from wine ..... would mean for me, that my culinaric culture has died

Depends on the dish or setting.
Sushi ~ Geyser Peak Sauv Blanc; Pizza ~ Fat Bastard Shiraz; Italian ~ Banfi Rosa Regale or Ruffino Chianti; Sitting in the cool Bayou ~ Campanile Pinot Grigio; wintertime in front of the fireplace ~ Rodney Strong Pinot Noir Reserve and when all else fails or just need a good red, the winner is Symmetry . . . . yummy!!!!!!

I'm what you would call a wine-o. I love all wine and will drink a gallon by myself in two hours if you let me.
