I have two pit bulls and I have a chain fence and an invisible fence. Since I've installed the invisible fence they dogs do great in the back yard once they got use to where they can go. It really works well for them. The invisible fence company is able to have different frequencies based on the need for the dog. Mine all have different ones. It doesn't hurt them and now they know when they hear the warning signal to step back. They haven't received a shock in quite a while. Good luck.

Get an invisible fence, the dog wears a transmitter around the neck and gets a small jolt if they come near the "fence". It's not cruel, just let's them know not to go near it.

Make your fence high enough with smooth surface. The part which is equal to the dog's height when standing should be super smooth and exxtend it upward to double the lenght.

Have pvc pipes mounted along the top of your fence so that they are freerolling. He won't be able to get a hold and will roll right off.

I knew someone who did that and it worked great.
