I saw a sad question about why people want to put pits to sleep?

I posted this once, but here it is agian;
Prayer of a Pit bull
Spirit in the sky, who watches over all animals:
It is my prayer and my request that you grant greater understanding,
and acceptance to humans;
those who love us, and those who hate us.
That they will know how loyal we are, how brave we are,
and how loving we are. Help them to accept us as a breed in whole, and not let the few tragedies shine brighter than the many great traits that we have. And those who would kill me,
let them know, I forgive them, even though I don't understand their hatred. And those who would beat me, let them know I still love them, even though it is not the honorable way.
Thank you for all the strong traits that you have given to me,
and my breed. Help those to know that I stand for
courage, strength, loyalty, and bravery.
And as my master already knows, let those who would come against my family know that I would surely die defending them.
And just one last thing that I would ask:
Let my master know, that if you should call me away,
that I will wait patiently at those pearly gates
until the one who chose me,
comes home.

To the a$$ who says they are a out dated breed. They work as police dogs, SAR, in case your inbreded brain can't figure that out serach and rescue, service dogs for the handicap. They were used as nanny dogs and in 1999 the dog of the yerar was a pit bull. Red necks like Helen Keller, Thomas Edison, G. Patton, Micheal J. Fox, Brad Pit, and two US Presidents, Wilson and Roosevelt owned them while in office, think they diid alot of dog fighting. The #1 detection dog is popsicle a pit bull found in a freezer left ther by the drug dealer that owned him, now he puts drug dealers in jail and NASA hand pick Kristine Crawfords pit bull Dakata to help find the Columbia astronauts. That's beautiful. I sometimes get so dishearten about all the hate being thrown around about some dog breeds. It is just so sad that if a dog isn't little then its as to be mean and dangerous.

Pits have got a bad reputation because people use them for fighting. But Ive seen some of the sweetest pit bulls! I hope 2 own one sometime in the near future. They really are great dogs and its a shame people cant realize its the owner not the dog. As they say "Punish The Deed, Not The Breed"

All the Bull Terrier varieties (English Bull , Staffordshire Bull, Am Staff) are usually great with people. They may or may not be as good with other dogs, due to the long tradition of breeding them for dog/bull fighting. The Canine species is a docile one, and they rather flee than fight, When mankind has bred for dogs who are more willing to go into fights, they have violated an instinct of the species. I like Bull Terriers of all kinds, I used to work at a large kennel (one of the leading show kennels in Europe) that bred English Bull Terriers. The heritage of the fighting days is not something that dissapears over night - it is something that needs to be recognized and dealt with properly. Common sense and dogmanship goes a long way. These are not breeds you should encourage to play "fighting games" or toss balls or teach to pull at things that you hold in your hands. Put them to use - teach it to pull a wagon with your groceries, or teach them to water the plants in your garden with a hose! :-) Really, I have seen the latter!

I don't think they ought to be killed. I do think that people actively involved in these breeds need to clear out some of the people who give the breeds such a bad name. If any reader here wishes to buy one, please cantact the American Kennel Club (www.akc.org) for breeder referral.

I don't believe one breed is more dangerous than another. It all has to do with if the dog is bred and raised correctly. It's simple if they put all Pits and the other few breeds to sleep, people will just look for another breed to be used as fighting etc. Do you honestly believe Pits are the only breed that has ever attacked someone? It's the image that the media has gave them.

Pit bulls are wonderful dogs! I have two (and a cocker spaniel) and my pits are big babies. I wouldn't trade them for any other dog. It's so sad that there are ilresponsible people in this world that mistreat this breed of dogs and make people think that the breed is bad. It's not the breed but the handler.
