i think people have made some excellent valid points on here.

you don't say whether the girl had sex or snogged someone and the difference is very important.

i think being drunk isn't an excuse, but let's face it...it is a reason.

can anyone truly say they've been drunk and not done anything that they truly wished they hadn't? such as snogging someone, singing (badly!) at the karaoke, phoning that person they liked, telling their mum-in-law she's an interfering bint (okay, so that last one's the one i'm looking forward to!)

the demon drink does have a lot to answer for. i would forgive a drunken snog. once. everybody deserves a second chance. a third chance would be taking the piss tho.

but drunken sex? hmmm...i don't know. i've never been so drunk that i've wanted to be with anyone other than my partner, so i can't say i really understand. but my instincts would be to agree with the reader that asked how it won't happen again...is she going to stop going out/getting drunk/drinking at all?

i don't think there should be revenge involved. that wouldn't help anyone concerned.

if your mate thinks that this girl is def worth it then he has to consider the pros and cons. pros being he's got a girl that he really likes and she must like him (or she'd have just walked away after the drunken thing) cons would be she could do it again and break his heart.

personally, i would forgive. once. but you really have to mean it. you can't cast it up everytime you argue, or throw it in her face any time you want your own way. that def wouldn't work either. don't forget, relationships are hard work for everybody!

Personally, and as a woman, if I did that to a man, I would expect to be dumped quicker than a handful of dog shite as you so eloquently put it.

I'm sorry, but I truly believe that no one can be that drunk....

If a man did that to me, then I would never be able to trust again, and without trust, you got nothing!

depends on what kind of drunken mistake it was, a drunken snog could be forgiven, who hasnt been carried away by a smooth talker and alcohol thats like a split second thing,.... its a bit different falling into bed with someone, doesnt matter how drunk you are you still know the person your with isnt your partner. depends on what their relationship is like, some wont tolerate it and some think everyone is allowed one free pass.

Depends really on what the mistake was. But, they say when we have drunk too much alcohol it lets our natural inhibitions down and we say and do things we didn't have the courage to do when we were not drunk. I would say, no, you cannot forgive because deep down in the partner's unconscious was a desire to do what they did and that accounts for betrayal which is unforgivable. It does, however, depend on the two people concerned, they may be more forgiving than you or I.

Depends on the circumstances but the way you have put it implies that the person was so drunk they did this mistake because they weren't fully compus mendes. So what happens if they get drunk again?
Are they never going to drink again incase they get into the same situation?

If it was only a mistake ..yes. But in your case since youre not very forgiving, dont expect others to be so either :)

Christianity teaches forgiveness. I guess it all depends on your point of view. I am not particularly religious but I like to live by the Christian doctrine.
