That way of thinking is extremely overused and very easy to be mis-interpreted. Of course its next to impossible to love your enemies. And you are incredibly correct, what value does that put on love. Anything that is commoditized immediately becomes worthless. Whose opinion do you value more, someone who is choosy or someone who seems to like everything and anything. Exactly.
What i think they meant is, see what is good, and bad, in everyone, even your enemies. This way no good attibutes that you can copy escapes your notice, even the good attributes of your enemies. Unfortunately... it's easier to sell "love".
Hope i was able to help

It puts a great amount of power on the word....if you can find it in your heart to love those that are your enemies, then what does that say about the power of the word alone? Love is a VERY powerful thing and it can make all situations better.

One of the problems with translating something into an other language is that meanings are lost in the translation.
The New Testament was written in Greek which has several words that translate into English as love.
In the Greek these words define the different types of Love and the understanding is enriched by these definitions.

You're taught to love without condition. You don't love a person just because they love you back.! You must also love a person who does not love you back! Rare is the person who has this enobling trait! You have to be superhuman to love even your enemy!

A very high value. Love becomes more when you share it. There are also different types of love. Do you love your mother, your spouse, your children the same?

love everyone...
easy to say easy to understand hard to do,,,
but it would make your life wonderful if you could feel love and if you can make othersfeel it too.
if you would love only those people who love you, it's not a big deal because you are getting something in return for something too...
so love your enemies and make them your friends..
there is no greater love than to lay down your life for a friend
as what my friend do when he offered his life for me on the cross

If you loved your enemies then they would be a different word for them. I don't like my enemies at all.

If you are able to love your enemies, your love becomes unconditional and gracious.
I doubt majority of the people can bring themselves to love the enemy.
