I hate to point it out again, and I will probably not do so as well as some of the others, but this article is not the "evidence" we're looking for. Imagine there is a murder in Boston. The "evidence" can be wrangled in such a way as to make me, in New York, clearly the culprit. This technique requires several different levels of collusion and corruption, but the end result is the same, evidence molded to fit an agument. This is not the way it should be done. Evidence needs to support an argument and the argument needs to change based on the available evidence.

1. The "Just right universe." Obviously the universe is "just right" for life. If it wasn't we wouldn't be having this disagreement. However, one key aspect is overlooked here: Life on Earth evolved to fit this particular set of circumstances. Rats live in the basement of the Waldorf Astoria. Does this mean that the hotel was built for rats? Of course not, but hotels are good at supporting rodents. It's the same thing.

2. "Ought." After some interesting paragraphs, we are left with "The reason all human beings start out with an awareness of right and wrong, the reason we all yearn for justice and fairness, is that we are made in the image of God, who is just and right." The whole point is lost right here.

3. "ID" We've been over this ad nauseum. I'm not going over it again here.

4. "Reliability of the Bible" I realize that the Christian faithful put a tremendous amount of stock in their "prophecies fulfilled," but it seems to us that these fulfullments are something of a stretch. I, too, can make vague allusions about what will happen in the future. This is less "reliable" than Nostrodamus, if you catch my drift.

5. "Jesus." It boggles my mind how the faithful can take hearsay from two-thousand years ago as "evidence," but willfully ignore things like potassium-argon dating. Jesus is no more proof of the existence of god than David Copperfield is.

In closing, reading this article just made me shake my head. The amount of energy that people put into mythology boggles my mind. I realize that it helps many people sleep better at night, but in the end I think that the cost of a good night's sleep is far too great.

Hi , I have take a fast look for this article and I will give you evidences of god existence ,

1- In Kuran which is the Muslim book and which exist since thousands of years ago it is known that god create the human from the soil but the revolution theory against this idea . the evidence of the existence of God is clear by how he created the human being . Take a look for the human and especially for the DNA which made from the 1- Hydrogen 2- Carbon 3- Oxygen 4- Nitrogen 5- Phosphor and take a look on any plant and soil books , you will find that the main components of any soil to enable these plants to grow are these five elements .
Besides , how is the universe is so firm , if the distance between the earth and the sun is decrease 1MM the earth will burn , I do not believe that is a coincidence , I think you have to read the miraculous nature of Koran , which exist from thousands years and the modern technology still discover them , you will believe in God more...

Okay. I can't say ı read it, more I 'skimmed' it, but that's because I'm weel familiar with all that it states.

1. A 'Just Right' Universe. I realise this seems like a very strong argument, but there are almost an infinite number of planets out there. The important thing to consider is this: Is the Earth perfectly suited to life, or is (carbon-based) life perfectly suited to the Earth? The earth was, of course, here before us. It's a basic concept of evolution that things adapt themselves to fit the environment. If many of the factors you listed were different, life would merely have evolved in a different direction (for example, suited to better temperatures). If you start with the existence of human life and then note how the earth is suitable for it, you're doing your math backwards. That's like settling into a house and then admiring that your house was designed perfectly for your furniture - surely you bought your furniture to match your house?

2. The Nagging Itch of 'Ought': if you follow the brilliant progress happening at the moment as regards neuroscience, you'll find that we're starting to understand much of hour our morals can be explained in terms of evolutionary biology. But more than anything else, this is the worst and most insulting argument theists make. Wanton murder is unknown among non-human animals. In any case, that's still working backwards. And there is no explanation given here as to why morals _must_ come from God. It's just stated as a 'fact' that ı disagree with.

3. Evidence of Design Implies a Designer: Again, this argument - the crux of 'Intelligent Design' is filled with so many holes that it's ridiculous. We start with our perceptions of 'ideal' and work backwards from there. Why is it 'ideal' that we don't have a tail? Why is it 'ideal' that our mouth is below our nose and not above it? Because that's what we're used to. DNA is, of course, the crucial explanation for why we _don't_ need a watchmaker. Utilising it to (poorly) 'prove' ID is ridiculous. As is quoting, or even daring to mention the name of, Dr. Dawkins. If this person is so interested in Dawkins, perhaps he could try _reading_ Dawkins!

4 & 5 are irrelevant for someone who doesn't believe in the Bible. It's the worst kind of circular argument.

The only thing worse than blind faith is using pseudo-science to back it up.

Intro,

Thank you for the article, it was a good read. I have read similar articles, and am always left feeling a bit disappointed. I think that Science is often used by Christians only when it is beneficial to their beliefs.. This is to be expected, but it makes us Atheists a bit weary and suspicious of the articles produced by Christians for Creation. Science shows a much greater likelihood that Creation as outlined by many Christians just is not at all plausible.

The next portion I was a bit disappointed with was that there is circular reasoning. It is assumed that the Bible is correct. I do not believe it is. Trust me, I have been going to churches, talking with theists and trying to keep an open mind, but I just do not see it as a valid piece of work.. Perhaps one day in the future I will see it as you, but for now it just is not working..

Thanks again for the link. I do not find that it provides evidence for any God that I have read about.

How can that be evidence of god's existence ?

You have taken natural stuff and then brought god in to the picture ?

Is this what you call evidence?

Evidence is, you pray and then something out of the ordinary happens for every one to see - like Jesus healing people - we want to see it. I see Chris Angel doing stuff and David Blaine doing stuff - lucky they don't call themselves religious leaders - they will have a following.

A god who answered to prayers 2000 years back cannot be silent 2000 years after wards ya? If that is the case it's high time he shows up and stop the killing of innocent children.

One off situations are called being lucky and could happen to anyone - not only Christians and immaterial of you praying or not.

I don't even have to read the article...

Do you believe in evolution? Well you HAVE to, because there is physical evidence of it! Do you believe in dinosaurs? Because they're is physical evidence of them too!

In someone's little Garden of Eden story, they said that this god guy put Adam and Eve, human beings, on the Earth, which is bull, because human evolved from monkeys.

It's stupid! Religion is stupid! It creates wars and rifts between the world! All because of some little kids many years ago who didn't have the technology to create a chain e-mail, so they wrote a story and told everyone to pass it on!

No... it's the same old crap, all over again. The Mount Rushmore analogy (which would be valid if there were Mount Rushmores all over the place), and the "Just Right"-universe. Which Douglas Adams summed up like this:

"Imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, 'This is an interesting world I find myself in, an interesting hole I find myself in, fits me rather neatly, doesn't it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!' This is such a powerful idea that as the sun rises in the sky and the air heats up and as, gradually, the puddle gets smaller and smaller, it's still frantically hanging on to the notion that everything's going to be alright, because this world was meant to have him in it, was built to have him in it; so the moment he disappears catches him rather by surprise."

Thanks for sharing this with us!

Look, if there is proof positive that there is a God, then there would be no need for faith ok.

Faith and proof cannot co-exist.

Like when you put money in a bank, they don't ask you to have faith that your money will gain interest. Because they have proof that they will pay (most likely anyway).

But when someone asks you to lend him money, he is asking you to have faith in him, because there is no strong proof that he will pay you back. That is why if a stranger asks to borrow money we rarely ever lend.

So please please please enough proofs that God exists. There is no proof. You can only have faith that he exists ok

I read it. That isn't evidence of the existence of god in any way, shape or form. Its simply stating the way our planet operates. The world wasn't created to be perfect for us, we evolved to be perfect for the world.

No evidence. Sorry.
