WOW! As a Navy Commander, I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with a fellow officer. Not all of us are arrogant. It always seems to be the ones who want you to know they're an officer, and most of the time it's the lower ranking ones who've just earned their commissions who act like total asses. In doing so, they make the rest of us look bad.

You can't form on opinion about a whole group of people just based on one or a few people's manners. I guess the officer you encountered was an arrogant officer, if he at all was an officer. Because if he really was a military officer , he needed to have some manners and not be arrogant in the first place.
Also like if a doctor or nurse or a lawyer is arrogant , you can't say all doctors or nurses or lawyers are arrogant. Same applies to the military officers.

I am enlisted. I have had several experiences with many officers, and I would say anecdotally that it seems like one out of every six or so young lieutenants and captains are arrogant and condescending at least to me as an enlisted person. I have also interacted with many NCOs and SNCOs and do not see the same kind of pretentiousness and arrogance and condescension as I see with young officers.

Because he was arrogant, you think they all are? I come in contact with Officers everyday when I take my kids to the military hospital, go to the base, or just walk into my husband's command, and I have come across very few that are arrogant. The majority of them are very nice. Sure, you have some that are jerks, but that's in any line of work.

Just how educated are you. Why are you so arrogant about your education. Do you know the measure of education and training required for someone to become an officer in the military?

My husband who is a Senior Officer NEVER uses his rank in his private life and if we meet anyone new (on holiday for instance) and they ask us what we do, I bang on about my career, and he just says quietly 'I'm in The Army'. There have been occasions, one I particularly remember at a dinner hosted by civilian friends, when one woman, who had said 'oh' and turned away when he answered that question, discovered his rank from somebody else and then decided that suddenly we were interesting people & she wanted us to come for dinner! His rank is only significant to his job, it's not who he is, and anyone who exploits their Senior rank in our circle would be considered an arrogant and crashing snob!

Not all Officers are arrogant, but the ones who are think that they are better than you for several reasons. 1. They have been to college, so they are "smarter" than you. 2. They are serving in the Military, so they are more Patriotic than you.
99.99% of the Officers that I have had the honor of working with are truly outstanding persons, so please let this influence your view of Officers rather than the .tiny percentage who are arrogant.

so you made a blanket assumption based on one experience? now THAT'S arrogant.
Most Military Officers are honorable Men and Women with no need to flaunt their status anywhere. In fact, you will find that they most often prefer to stay out of the limelight and tend to downplay their role.

Because they know that all enlisted people have to kiss their butt. So it makes them god. Some officers aren't that way. But their are some that really do like your guy.
