I have this same problem. I have not been able to stop either. You can talk to your doctor. You can try to reduce your stress. If you know what you are talking about you can work on that. I went to counsel ling about it and I went on a diet of sorts. No violent TV, movies and no upsetting reading. No news. It did not work for me, but you can give it a try. You could try meditating. I just do not share rooms with friends anymore. Things have let up a bit. I would just say reduce stress as much as possible. I sleep with my dog. My boyfriend knows all my secrets. I would just find out what you are talking about and try to work it out in real life try to avoid the stimulus that is causing it. Go to counseling for it. If it is TV or something like me stop it. If there is something bad in your life get help with it. I really hope it gets better. Like I said mine is not perfect, but it is better. I still wake up and scream. I still talk from time to time. I just do not share rooms when I travel anymore and oh I do not know what I will do when I fly that is scary. It is awful when I tell all my secrets. It is embarrassing. I understand what you mean. Believe me I do. A girl needs some private thoughts.
PS I tried strong sleeping medication and it did not work for me, but that does not mean it will not work for you. At the time I had a very un suportive boyfriend who would not let me be myself and I had to try to control my nighmares because they bothered him. I since have a sympathetic boyfriend who is nicer and they are less anyway.

My mother started sleep talking in her later years. Carried on complete & understandable conversations. Never violent. Just normal conversations about anything. I started doing the same a couple years ago. I also wake myself up speaking so loud. Nothing has changed in the last 10 years or so, it can't be anything I'm taking or doing. Sometimes if I prop a pillow behind me so that I have to sleep on my side, it doesn't happen. No one will sleep in the same room with me, my dog leaves me if I get too loud. Last night I was with a friend sled riding down a hill, when I yelled 'wait'....it woke me up. go figure. If there is a cure....please let me know. I try not to travel with anyone other than my husband (who won't sleep with me). I spoke with doc once, he didn't seem too alarmed as long as they are not violent or hurt anyone.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Sleep talking by itself is harmless and the content should be taken lightly, however it can wake up others and cause them consternation—especially when misinterpreted as conscious speech by a partner. If the sleep talking is dramatic, emotional or profane it may be a sign of another sleep disorder.
go to a doctor/sleep therapist. The doctor will need to know how long you have been talking in your sleep. Get information from those who sleep with you or have seen you sleep. This includes spouses, relatives, friends, teammates, roommates, etc.
You will also need to provide a complete medical history. Be sure to inform the doctor of any past or present drug and medication use. Also tell him or her if you have ever had any other sleep disorder.
You will also want to keep a sleep diary for two weeks. The sleep diary will help the doctor see your sleeping patterns. This information gives the doctor clues about what is causing your problem and how to correct it.
i hope these help. good luck. nighty night!!!...lol

You know you should probably try seeing a doctor. My husband talks in his sleep too but only when he's really stressed out or when he's got a lot going on in his head. He tried some of those sleeping pills even though he does fall asleep on his own and everything but he thought that it might make his sleep heavier and shut his mouth. It actually did work but I don't want to tell you to try that cause it did work for my husband but it might not work on everybody. Your best bet is to go to a sleep doctor or something of that sort.

i just found out that i sleep talk because my roommate asked me what the heck i was doing in my bed because she couldn't go to sleep at night because of me.. Even i don't know what she was talking about. it got so bad that they put me in my own room. And i'm still not sure what is causing my sleep talking. you might want to go to the Doctors but i'm not sure what they can do for you.

Hi Merry. I had to smile @ your comment! I know that feeling inside & out! I wonder what the answer is?!?! Where are you? I'm in Western Australia. I feel that my sleep talking is getting me into trouble that I'm not willing to admit!
