In and of itself, just 1. However, if you mean how many nationalities, well, this is a giant melting pot, so that number is as many as there are people. The continent of North America, however, has 3: Mexico, Canada, and USA.

I think what you may be wanting to say is Counties. Don't mind everyone's manners...they are having a bad day.
According to the US Census Bureau, there are 3,141 counties or county equivalents defined within the US borders as of December 2005.
