I think 16, and then only in groups.

With all the date rape, STD's, teen pregnancies and everything else I'm being extremely careful with my girls. I didn't start dating till I was 16 either.

And honestly, what is dating? It's preperation for real relationships. Why does a 14 year old need to even think about that? They need to first take care of themselves and grow up a little before they are ready to start taking care of someone else, especialy a child which comes from too many teen dating scenes anymore.

I believe that 16 or 17 are acceptable ages for people to begin dating. But no one under the age of 19-20 should be in serious relationships with the opposite sex because they don't have real adult relationship understanding until that point.

In their 20s or old enough to have good judgment.

While many teenagers or even pre-teens are very smart, very intelligent, they lack good judgments. That is why the law have a age limit that separates minors from people of majority, and states what kind things a minor can do, what kind of things only a person of majority can do, what kind of things a minor can not do or can do but only under guidance of an adult (person of majority).

Judgments come from experiences.

When they can handle the responsibility of it. Can you hold a job? Can people trust you to keep your commitments? If the answer to either of those is no, then you shouldn't date.

There are people that are 25 and they aren't old enough, and there are people that are 16 and they are old enough. It all depends on the maturity of the person to be able to communicate clearly and diffuse potential "drama."
