I agree with you 100%. I am an AMerican and my husband is mexican, I speak solamente Espanol en mi casa, and I am teaching my daughter to speak spanish before I teach her to speak English. All of the racsist jerks on her are giving kindhearted Americans a bad name. It makes me ashamed to be an AMerican when I read some of the crap people spout out here on Yahoo! ANswers. Yo soy 100% americana pero tengo corozon mexicana. I speak spanish and I am a white girl so take that you racest Americans!

Well, how about you make English the official language of Mexico? It would never happen, so why assume we should do that here? My friends are Latin, I have Latin blood, so I am far from a racist. you say, it is not up to someone to learn English, it is what WE spoke since the settlers came to New England, if that doesn't accommodate you, well that's too bad.
It is the business of the people who live, work, and helped build the country to decide the language, not someone who comes here to better themselves. If you come here, you KNEW before you got here what language we speak. I would not want another country to change who they are, what they speak, then it is not the same country anymore.
Good for you that your American, I guess. If you were intelligent enough to make the case and difference between racism and trying to change a culture in a country you are not a citizen of, your post may have made a good argument, but that's not the case amigo. I suppose every Russian immigrant thinks we should learn the Cyrillic alphabet. hmmm . Your logic is severely flawed

My sister's boyfriend is an illegal Mexican. He wants to become an American and learn to speak English but is scared that it will be hard to learn. In the mean while she is picking up on Spanish phrases and can communicate with him quite well. I'm definitely not against the illegals in our nation but I do wish that there was a way that he could learn English because he really does want to and there isn't anywhere in our area for him to go and learn that I know of.

Aside from the fact that it is mandatory by law to speak English (see warriorbabes reference) to become a naturalized citizen, it is the right thing to do, I wouldn’t move to Japan if I didn’t speak Japanese. I don’t care if you speak Swahili as a first language. If you are in America have some respect and learn English it is the language of the country they are choosing to be in!
I find it quite hypocritical that you would accuse everyone that is against illegal immigration or thinks that all citizens should have the ability to speak English of being a “racist” this is a racist prejudicial comment and you should be ashamed to champion yourself against the racist Americans when you yourself are nothing more than a racist latino by your own admission.
It is the law! Debate that you traitorous racist!
Jessibear- if your heart is 100% Mexican and you want to defend all Latinos go to Mexico and fight from there traitor!
Hoka Hey!! Aumpote' washte', Wanbli galeshka wana ni he o who e!!!
Figure it out! Now maybe you can get some experience before you run your racist mouth.
DEPORT ALL ILLEGALS!!

I"m hispanic and I have to say that I only somewhat agree with what you're saying. I've read some of the answers and it sickens me to see such disgusting remarks from some of these ignorant people. Although I do think that if you move to a country then you should try to learn the language of that country. Although I'm from Canada and not the US, we too have a very multicultural country. I don't think it should be expected for people just moving to the States/Canada to be able to speak english right away. I do think they should try to learn though. Not to please the english speaking americans/canadians but to improve their own lives while living there.

Go away you racist hispanic twit. You keep saying the same thing and it is getting old. And it's getting to the point I think maybe you are an illegal to huh. Why can't they learn English it would only help them if they are here to better themselve as you say but we know they are only here to take what they can get then retire in Mexico with American dollars in the bank. My wife immigrated here Legally and speaks English and her own language Khmer. Hispanics can learn english they just don't want to be cause they are racists and feel they don't need to. And people like you are one of the reasons. How well do you think You would gett along in Mexico is #1 you were illegal and #2 you didn't learn Spanish? There are no English or American barrios in Mexico city huh?

You have to learn English if you become Naturalized!
I don't believe in English as an official language. German would have been out official language but lost by one vote.
Face it, it's whites trying to protect "their" turf, which they stole from the Mexicans and Indians!
Culture is a large part of who you are, and it seems to me most Americans have lost theirs because, for the most part, they are not from America! Somewhere along the line they came from someplace else!

As with many Hispanics that I know, you are ignorant, petty and dis-courteous. Use some common sense, you are making an A$$ out of yourself. They should learn to speak English because they are living in an English speaking country. "COURTESY" (which you obviously weren't taught). You can probably ask any English speaking American BORN citizen and they will tell you "We wouldn't move to another country (say France) and EXPECT the ENTIRE country to speak English just because we do, we would learn French so that we could become a PRODUCTIVE member of their society." Like I said before, if y'all love your country of birth SO much, why did you come here. GO HOME!!!!! USA love it or leave it!

It's pretty simple....you are required by law, to read, write, and speak English in this country to become a naturalized citizen of America. You really should read your handbook....it tells you right there on pg 26...and they print it in Spanish for you so don't worry. Because of this law I will consider any non-English speaking person on this soil, a criminal. Lets not over look rule 8 of Yahoo answers either, English is to be used while participating here. I have concluded that you are a law breaker, a cheater and a rule breaker, and since you said you are American; you are a traitor as well. Did you lie against god and country when you raised your right hand and took the Oath of Allegiance?
