Training a goffin to poop on command takes some work. When they're about to poop, they do a butt wiggle and sometimes back up. When you see this happening, say 'Go Plop!' (or something similar) and praise your guy with lots of dancing and 'Good boy!'. Parrots love drama, so the more you dance and cheer, the happier they become. Some birds will naturally poop only after they've come out of the cage, or some will wait until they're put on their play stand.

Talking is harder to learn. Not all parrots will talk and some birds are better as whistlers and others Will mimic sounds better than whistle. However, you can encourage your bird by walking around the home and naming objects such as the phone, the stairs, the door, the kitchen, etc. When you're offering food, name the food and make delicious smacking noises. When offering it to the bird ask 'want some 'name the food', then give the bird some of the food. Have the bird included in all family activities, including watching TV and eating at the dinner table. Many people would encourage an owner to bring their bird into the shower with them :-) . Sooner or later your guy will pick up a word, whistle or noise.

Training 'step up' is pretty simple. It takes a few attempts for the bird to get the point of view, but every bird I've known eventually learns how to do this. You take your hand and approach from below the bird's feet. Where the legs join the body, take your first two or three fingers and gently put pressure on the bird's stomach. The bird will lose balance and will be forced to stand on your hand. Be gentle when you do this and if your bird tries to nip, don't react. Give the command once and put pressure on its belly. Babies don't always know what to do, so they may take you almost lifting them up with the pressure on their bellies before they finally step on your hand. Larger birds may have more luck sitting on your wrist.

There's lots of great books on parrot training in pet stores. I'll list two of my favorites under 'sources'. Good luck!

I haven't been on a train for a long time now, but I guess if I ever do travel through the train in the near future, I would like to read an interesting novel. Now that I imagine it, it seems like something I'll seriously look forward to.

I can help you I have a 11 years old female Goffins Cockatoo named Coconut.

Now you say you want to train him to poop? Do you mean potty train him? Ok I have that done with Coconut. I would hold her and every 20 minutes I would take her to her cage and she would poop. and she caught on in a few days. Now when she has to go she stretches her wing and looks at her cage and I carry her there and she goes almost instantly.

Now to teach him to talk. Coconut only knows 9 words, they dont have an impressive talking ability but when they talk it souns like an english person talking its really funny. Not all birds will talk so dont be dissapointed if yours doesnt. Just be perisitant and reptitious. and hopefully in time your bird should catch on.

Now the step up command the most important command your bird will ever learn. Is also one of the easiest. just simply stick your hand in your birds cage and pres against his chest and say up or step up.

After handling the cockatoo for awhile, you will notice when the bird has to go poop. They learn on their own to wait until near the cage or the appropriate place you choose. I have taught my 3 large parrots to poop on newspaper by laying newspaper on the floor of the area where I'm sitting. I extend my arm outward periodically and they know to poop. You can teach them this and perching by using a small treat of a favorite fruit or other treat when they respond positively. They start to talk when ready. The more interaction on your part, the more vocal the bird will be. I also leave the TV on for the birds to listen to.

I see that you have already received some good training answers for your question, so I'll just add a disclaimer. You want to be careful about training a bird to "go poop" on command, because some birds are so eager to please that they will actually hold it until you ask them. So, if you're at work all day, they'll just hold it until you get home, and this can be very dangerous, even deadly for the bird. A better option is simply learn how to read your bird's body language when he's getting ready to go and get him to a place where he can go without messing something up. I was very careful not to "train" pooping on command, but my amazon has learned that every time he starts to go, I move him to his perch, so after a while, he just started going over there himself when he had to go. Good luck!!
