I would be the first to concede to the fact that racism is in very poor taste, reflecting upon the guilty party's ignorance and handicapped view of the beauty of humanity, (and in no way condone, support, or value such opinions)

BUT,

I myself live in the United States, I don't know about the rest of you, but is it not their right to say whatever the hell they want? (discluding slander etc)

We have the right to be stupid,
We have the right to be ignorant,
We have the right to do or think, essentially, whatever we so desire, so long as another's rights are not infringed upon.
Let's not just look at racism, but everything "offensive" that people go around "reporting".

I mean, do we really have a right to not be offended? Of course not.

Yes but, this isn't the United States, this is Yahoo! Answers. We have to ask and answer questions according to the Yahoo! Answers community guidelines. I rarely use the report feature but I understand why people do.

I agree with you though that many people are probably reported for the silliest things. I hope those reports are ignored.

I agree 100%. It seems our country has gone right down the **** tubes, everyone thinks they have the right to tell everyone else what to do, and if you dont concede to their wishes, they run straight to ''the authorities'' crying the blues and demanding action. This is a crock and it is destroying our country. I say what I want and if anyone wants to report me, go right ahead. I do not fear, nor do I capitulate to those who wish to push their morality or their censorship down my throat. whatever happened to the childrens saying ''stick and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me''? Have we forgotten this lesson, that ALL have a right to express their views, no matter what others may think of those views? I wish I hadnt opened this question, because this is my worst nightmare, the world of G. Orwells 1984. And the sad thing is, I can type all night and NO ONE will change their mind concerning this issue. We have reached cusp in this country, and the next few years will decide if we are to remain a free people, or go down in the flames of censorship and silence. you ''reporters'' disgust me.

edit: previewed this and my first line was automatically censored by yahoo...its a sad world.

Certainly there is truth in what you say. However, there are certain acts of conduct that are acceptable and some that aren't. Yahoo Answers is a public forum. We do not tolerate people walking around on the street assaulting others verbally and I don't think it should happen here, either.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they must find a way to express it that is not hostile to the community in general.

Best wishes.

No, I agree. But when someone contunies to spread hate, and intolerance, to the point of wishing people dead, it becomes a problem, and I will report that.

Sure, Americans can say anything they want, but Yahoo puts limits on it, its their rules.

Besides, dont some deserve it? I get the freedom of speech thing, but when someone talks about killing other people, or harming young kids, they need to be reported, no question.

I'm not the one reporting you, but you're questions sort of run on and on. I find if my questions get lengthy I'll just write a blog with a Poll, Yahoo! 360 is an excellent place for this. Good Luck.

Thoughts:

I have the right to report.
Yahoo has the right to delete.
Yahoo has the right to ban.

You still have the right to speech, but now (after being banned) Yahoo won't help you. Yahoo is in no way legally obliged to help your voice be heard. But you can still say whatever the heck you want.

Reporting is part of my exercise of free speech.

Your freedom is just your arm's length. You can't swing it into other guy's face without offending him. You have the right to be whatever you are but don't dump it on others let alone forcing it. Iam just trying to get across the other side view.

OMFG REPORTED!!!

But seriously now, it's simple. Reporting is easy to do, and it gives individuals a rush of power. Abusing the rules is part of human nature, so it's inevitable that it'll continue to be done. Ultimately, things are unlikely to change until the rules change to prevent it from happening.

A website is like a store, if you go around yelling at people about things, it is within the owners power to kick you out.
