I am currently reading this book " A Return To Modesty"
by Wendy Shalit. I am finding myself very moved by
the information in it.

In this book she talks about how womens liberation
is actually oppressing us more. It is hurting
women much more,a nd causing all sorts of
havoc to be wrought upon us. With freedom
to sleep around and dress how we want
and emulating men. With feminism the norm
we now have increased rape,
increased sexism, increased violence against women
increased sexual dysfunction, increased anorexia
and bulimia,increased divorce, increased abortion,
increased STDs, increased psychological problems..
the list goes on and on.

In your opinion do you believe that women
giving up their modesty has hurt us? And
inevitbly destroying romance, marraige,
relationships,and mens treatment of women.

Men used to live by a code of conduct
around women, to be worthy of them.
To be gentlemen.

I think with feminism we destroyed chivalry
and mens respect for women and their bodies.

My comments will probably be looked
at as sexist or "oppressing " to women
But when i look around at all the problems
that abound in our society i can only feel
sorry that it has come to this.

Modesty protected women,and
made men suitable fathers.
It actually made women "Powerful"
believe it or not. Women i think
have less power today over
their sexuality than ever.
Because they have lost by large
the respect for themselves
and from the opposite sex.

I do hold to that code of conduct, and treat all women as ladies even if their behaviour does not warrant it. Once they get past the shock of this, most of the ladies I meet enjoy having their chairs held and their doors opened for them. They appreciate the safety of knowing they shant be mauled at the end of our date, but seen to their door with only a kiss goodnight. I am a gentleman.
Being a lady has nothing to do with equality, but is a matter of self-respect and a reverence for her body. It is her own code of conduct which states she is moral and honourable, she holds to a higher standard, she takes pride in herself and demands only the best behaviour from those she dates.
I do believe in romance and long courtships, in love before intimacy, and treating a woman as the beautiful and priceless creature she is.
Chivalry and modesty are not dead, but I am of a dying breed. So, I fully agree with the author of your book in that the times have changed for the worse in many ways. Feminism has not destroyed this so much as loose morality so prevalent in our society today. It is true that you teach others how to treat you.
~Because sometimes it is rocket science.~

As a married male in his twenties, I personally find to be yourself the best outcome. Modesty is not the real question here, books cant not tell you who you are, only you can. I met my wife online and she was just being herself. That is what made me fall in love with her. As you can probably tell. You personally, are asking a computer for answers. (hypethically speaking of course) In which you feel comfortable about yourself to ask. Some goes for what you do outside you home. If a person thinks themself a fool, generally they are. It doesn't matter what people think of you as long as you are you. As far as a personal mans opinion on looks. Keep sexy in the bedroom, wear your fav outdoors and keep your best suits in your heart... Impress yourself before impressing another.

I agree with AAP, I am sleepy so I just kind of skimmed, but from what I read, I feel the same way. I love the way men and women treated each other in older times.

That is true because I know I dont look at women the same as I did when I was younger. Women now they will do anything to get what they want and not earn a bit. Alot of men (not me) does abuse women physically, mentally and sexually because of the way alot of women act it is hard to get a good woman these days. Because alot of them are so set on what they want they loose sence of the people who love them. Like the woman I love .

The person writing the book doesn't understand feminism.

Feminists, in general, want to give all women the freedom to choose what they want.

That is all.

How you and I (as a man) find our way through our added freedoms is really what modern life is about.
