That I think would depend completely upon surrounding environment.

If it is because there aren't any people around for you to talk with (I like that you used the words "talk with" since that implies a two way conversation and not just talking to hear yourself talk) then I think even I would most likely kiss sanity good-by.

However, if it is because even though there are plenty of people around, there is just no one you find worth talking to. Probably because carrying on a conversation with these people is more maddening than not. I would probably just buy myself a good pair of earplugs and get on with life.

And, there is the possibility that you find yourself in the midst of people you find so completely compelling you would simply prefer to listen to their brilliant repartee than dare to speak around these brilliant souls (When you find these people, PLEASE let me know! LOL

At any rate, presuming this is a hypothetical question and you are not considering an oath of silence it would definitely depend on who what when and where as well as why?

My personal opinion is the danger of becoming "mad" rests with finding yourself alone with someone who talks so much you never have a chance to say anything. LOL Umm perhaps it's a very good thing you don't know me. I talk a lot, a lot lot
So, avoid these people and you will be fine. Oh yeah, finding someone that talks more than me? Why that's just plain "MAD!" That of course is my greatest fear!

It depends on whether you are isolated from everyone else and have no communication at all with others. In that case it is a good possibility.

If you still have other people around then you probably won't because you will still be able to communicate in other ways. Think about it, there are a couple female actresses that are mute but they do very well, they communicate through sign language and gestures. They don't seem to be crazy to me, as a matter of fact they are both very beautiful women and seem very stable to me.
