The best classic martini is one that uses the best ingredients. First, chill your glass by filling it with ice and water. Start with a half-shot each of Tanqueray No. 10 Gin and Jean Marc XO Vodka (rated 97 and 96, respectively, by the beverage testing institute) in a shaker. Add a half-shot of Martini & Rossi Dry Vermouth, and just a splash of green olive juice. Add just a few ice cubes to the shaker and stir the mix around with a long spoon. (Shaking melts more ice into the drink, producing a weaker-flavored and lower-proof martini, if that's your preference.) Dump the ice bath out of your glass and strain your matini into the chilled glass. Garnish with a large green olive on some sort of pick. Don't use pimiento-stuffed olives unless you pull the pimiento out first. If you shop around, you can find almond-stuffed, bleu cheese-stuffed and other creatively-stuffed olives that could do much more for your drink than a plain olive, but unless you just love pimientos, they have no place in your drink. Also, use two olives so that you don't think you're being cheap.
