Islam is currently the fasting growing religion in America whose adherents hail from every race and ethnicity. In the United States, where Muslims number over six million, the Islamic faith has in many estimates surpassed Judaism and is believed to be the second largest religion in America after Christianity.
some of the most famous people have turned to islam, for e.g. Muhammad Ali considered the greatest sports person ever, cat stevens made tracks like 'first cut is the deepest', or kareen abdul jabbar one of the NBAs 50 greatest players of all time, WHY DO THEY DO IT?
what i want to know is why do people convert to islam, why not judaism or christianity ?

Islam has a lot of great teachings, as do most religions. Probably since so much attention is being drawn to Islam, people are naturally curious about it, and if they see truth in it, they may convert.

I'd just like to comment that your source of the number of Muslims (either religious or lapsed) in the United States is very faulty. From what I have read, it is less than 3 million and even that esitmate may be too high.
And although it is true that there are converts to Islam in the US, a vast majority of Muslims were born Muslim.
Compared with the number of Jews in the US, there are aprox. 5.5 million though admittedly, the vast majority are not religious.

as for Christianity maybe if you allowed freedom of religion in Muslim nations then people would convert as well

I think when someone truly studies about Islam with unbiased mind, s/he finds that it's the most complete religion. Islam is not only a religion, it is a complete way of life. As today we see lots of problems out there, racism, alcohol, drugs, murders, discrimination, hatred- Islam has answers to all problems.
Some people think Islam is fastest growing because Muslims tend to have many children- it's just a vicious lie. The rate of growing Muslims takes place mostly in Western world where all people are aware of family planning matter. It's because of convertion. Someone above said people also convert to Christianity and other- true. But those are too insignificant compared to turning to Islam.
Malcolm X was a convert Muslim who said, "America needs to understand Islam, because this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem." He understood it. Not only racism, it has solution to everything. Learn about Islam, read Islamic rules, read Qur'an and compare it to other religions and tell yourself the answer.

because Islam is really the religion of peace, no matter of many peole trying to spoil it's image.
most of people will measure Islam with some groups ogf muslims do blow here and there and call for jihad to make other region convert to Islam which all are fake people
I am Muslim female, and bwlieve of the three main religion ( Juddism, christianity and islam) and believe in Moses, Jesus and Mohammed and the other prophet are all the messenger of one god.
if you try to read our holly Quran will find the truth yourself and that doesn't mean if read it you will convert to Islam it is just to find how pecaeful, and never called for killing innocent people.
Islam as religion is trully peacefull religion and that's way many people convert to it. when you read Quran with faith you will have the peace feeling in yourself, you will find the answers for all your question. why people keep fighting, why keep insulting each other, we are all equal no matter of your skin color dark or white or backgroung, rich or poor we are all human, and being created from one Adam and Eva, what makes difference only the work you are doing good or bad.
Islam like any other religion some of the followers are bad and some good, and that's every where in every religion.
here you will tell me yes but most of the terrorists are Muslims, and i will not agree with you cause you have to see whom is behind those terrorists and sometimes are not muslims at all but acting in the name of Muslims e.g what had happen to the statu of one leader's wife in India where they found dirt on it, first thing said it's Muslims work, but then found out that work was done by people of the same religion of that leader.
then you will say Arabs are terrorists why, do you think arabs like to fight just like that, are they coming to others country and fighting, no they fight for their rights which has been taken by others.
my advise to all if you really want the truth you should try to get from different sources not from one part only.

Because normal islam is a peaceful religion. And, its different. People love to do things because they seem "exotic" or different or even if theyre against their families wishes. "Oh youre islamic? how trendy-cool".

Also, Islam seems to be the default religion for america-haters, so i think that has a lot to do with it too. They love the whole "jihad" availability and feel that it justifies actions, so there is a whole community that is attracted to it just for that reason.
