My dog has flees pretty bad, and to add more stress she is pregnant, Now I know it can't be good when the pups are born to have flees from their mother, and it makes me really sad watching my dog scratch and not having fun because of these annoying bugs, So what things can I use to get rid of the flees instead of actual flee meds, and try to name stuff that is relatively cheap (I can spend alot of money if i absolutely have to) please please please help me I hate watching her suffer?? ALSO, She hasnt been eating much I dont know if its do to heat or shes just being stubburn, shell eat sometimes out of my hands but bairly from bowl or my hands... what can I do to get her to eat, atleast enough for her health and pups?

How am I a bad owner when its the middle of summer and she likes to sit in the sun and play outside? I'm not gonna starve my dog from playing, if I could have kept her from getting flees and still could play outside I would, I love my dog.

Well, the best remedy is Revolution, available at the vet clinic. It is a spot-on-skin liquid that is really effective, and this site says its safe for nursing mothers..the site tells of other flea remedies that are safe as well>> http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1588&articleid=2627
Revolution costs about $13-$14, but is so very worth it! It will protect the babies too.
If your budget is really tight, Ivory Dish Soap and Ivory Bar Soap, and Pert Plus shampoo will all safely kill fleas. Just shampoo and leave on for a few minutes before rinsing.. It will kill all fleas, and then it is important to brush them out, so the dog doesn't ingest them and cause more tape worms..But since they are on your property, they will come back in a few days and eventually attack the puppies..However, Revolution will keep all of them safe for a month per application.
Second problem, getting her to eat...If she eats even a littlle every day, the pups should be fine...Just as with human moms, mom dogs often go off their feed....Try wetting and warming the kibble and adding cottage cheese....or feed good canned fooed for a while..Most important is for her to drink...put ice-cubes in her water during mid day ,when it is hot.
As she has fleas, she likely has tape worms too..Ask your vet if he has something safe to give her for worms before the babies are born....this could be affecting her apetite too.

Call your local vet and they will give you the brand name of a safe and effective flea dip for pregnant dogs. And the reason that she's not eating could be because she is either so miserable from being ravaged by fleas, or because she is getting ready to deliver her pups! If she is not due for awhile, then she could be suffering so bad from all those fleas, that she is just to darn frustrated to eat. Get rid of fleas, appetite should return. Oh! Just a F.Y.I.~ once you rid your dog of fleas, don't forget to rid your house as well. There are sprays and shampoos for your carpets and areas where your dog frequency's, so hit those areas especially good. There's nothing worse then a re infestation after you thing their gone! Good for you for being concerned about this before the babies get here.

Okay I really like Advantage, however since your dog is pregnant you should chck w your vet to be sure that since this product is absorbed into your dogs system that it is safe for nursing mothers.....there is the possibility that is could transfer to the mothers milk & poison the pups. As far as at home quick fixes this si safe for motht the mother dog & the puppies you can bathe them w Dawn dish soap(the original blue kind) just wet em down lather em up & let the suds soak on them fo rabout 5-7 minutes & then rinse em off. This will not kill eggs or prevent more fleas but it will kill the nasty lil buggers that are on them now. You also need to make sure your house is not infested, if it is all the washing as flea treatments in the world will do you NO GOOD!! If your house is infested you will need to bomb & probably treat the carpets, they make a REALLY good carpet treatment that you sprinkle on the rug kinda brush it into the carpet w abroom wait liek 20 minutes & vacuum it up it works really good & smells good too, I think its by Heartz or possibly Raid. LIke I said though till you find out if Advantage is safe for a pregnant dog give her a nice bath in warm water & Dawn she'll be feeling better in no time!! GOOD LUCK!!!

You can get Advantage cheap at feed stores. It is safe for pregnant moms and works great.
You are correct that you want to get rid of the fleas before the babies arrive.
Be aware that you also have to treat the house and dog bed for fleas.
It is crazy hot right now and her belly is full of puppies. That may be why she is not eating. You should be offering a high quality kibble and canned food. Get some puppy milk replacer from the petstore while you are there. That offers a lot of nutrition and dogs seem to like it. Don't give her cows milk, it can cause diarrhea.

Get some flea soap and give her a bath every few days. If you live near the ocean, fleas die pretty quick in salt water. Collars are useless. If she has long hair, get an electric razor and shave her down, or go to a dog groomer. Get a vacuum and use it often in your house. Get some oil of peppermint and put some in her dog bed (it won't kill the fleas but they'll leave the bed). Give her some red meat everyday, so she can keep her iron levels up. Good luck.

Okay.......my vet told me that the only thing you need to do is treat the dog with Frontline. Within a few days all of the fleas in the house will die because they wont have a host. No fleas in the house....no fleas on the dog. And she wont pick any up while being outside either because she was treated with the medication. We did this with our one dog who had a pretty bad case and it worked like a charm. Hope this helps!

Given the popularity that herbal remedies now enjoy with humans, there is aslo a corresponding upsurge in the use of herbs for your favorite four-legged pals. Herewith are a few time-tested methods to keep your dogs and cats happy and healthy:
Make an herbal flea powder
Combine one part each of as many of these powdered herbs as you can find: eucalyptus, fennel, rosemary Rue, wormwood, and yellow dock. Put this mixture in a standard shaker-top jar (such as a jar used for parsley flakes). Apply the flea powder sparingly to your pet's coat by brushing backward with your hand or a comb, and sprinkling it onto the base ofthe hairs, especially on the neck, back, and belly. If infestation is severe, use several times a week. After each treatment, put your pet outside for awhile so that the disgruntled tenants vacate your pets fur in the backyard (and not in your house).
Use an herbal flea collar
These collars are impregnated with insect-repellent herbal oils. Some are designed to be "re-charged" with the oils, and can be used repeatedly. Others are designed for a specific usage period before replacement. You can buy these types of products at local health food stores.
Lemon skin tonic
To effectively control mange and overall skin conditions, thinly slice a whole lemon, including the peel. Add it directly to one (1) pint of near-boiling water, and let it steep overnight. The next day, sponge the solution onto your pet's skin, and let it dry. You may use this tonic daily if needed.
Brewer's yeast or garlic added to pet food keeps fleas away
Yeast is an effective way to control fleas, particularly if your pet's health is good to begin with. Many people also praise garlic as an effective flea repellent, though current scientific studies do not yet support this. (You may also rub trace amounts of garlic directly into your pet's coat as a means to apply.)

when my dogs had fleas really bad, i took them to the vet to get a bath. maybe you can do the same. while i was there, they recommended a flea shampoo that had tar in it. i had success when i used it on my dogs..as for eating, most dogs when they are expecting, don't really eat a lot, their stomachs are pushed on from the pups, so they don't have much of an appetite. but if you are very concerned about it, you should see a vet..good luck!!

Take her to the vet and have him prescribe Frontline or K9 Advantix. This is put on the back of their necks but don't know if it would affect the puppies. Maybe have the vets bathe her with their shampoos that they use and ask them what you can use on her to keep the fleas off. You need to ask them anyway why she isn't eating. She may need some vitamins.

She is in too much misery to eat. Go to the vet and get medication to control the fleas, I have found Front Line the best for my pets. It works well killing the fleas and your pet will calm down and eat. She is in distress and it is not good for the pups either.
