Of course they would, when you are ****** up in the battlefield, and loose your frends, you need to be reassured that they did the right thing, that the lives mattered, and are appreciated from your countryman, otherwise soldiers after the time in military suffer from PTSD . You must know that while it is easy to make a killing mashine from a soldier, it is not an easy task ( sometime it is bordering with imposibillity) to sustain their sanity, their well of fortitude witch sustains them on the battlefield has a finite resources, but is refilled, when they get frendly thank you from home, or when people say , you did a good job, even if your superiors ****** up. Say to them you have given your time, your soul, your mind to the country, and we that are enjoying the civilization at home in peace know to appreciate your sacrifice.
However it sounds clishe, say it , it has an positive efect.
Hot to contact them, I do not know ,I am not an american, somebody will give recomandation.

We're always open to people who want to talk to us. It feels good to know we're thought about at least for a few minutes out of the day.
