why does anyone need to be a part of an organized religion?
im totally spiritual but im not religious. i dont understand why people feel the need to push people into being catholic, or jewish, or whatever their religion may be. why can't one just believe what they want to believe?! . . without being forced to do otherwise. no one can say that one religion is the right one. like i said, god has no religion (ghandi said that). it doesn't matter what religion you are. all that matters is that you're a good person and possibly, even to have faith in him.

yes, its IS possible ghandi is worng, but religion is all about god worshipping, how you do it, where you do it, what rules you follow. . . i HIGHLY doubt god has his own way of worshipping himself. he is himself. OF COURSE he believes in himself. he doesn't need a religion to believe in himself.

im not trying to push my beliefs on others (just to make that clear). and, yes, i said i was spiritual. i believe in a greater being, i believe in the power of my mind, ghosts, i believe. but i know that i dont know everything there is to know about god, or religion, i admit it. but, considering buddhist believe so much in their buddhist ways, just the same as catholics belive in their catholic ways. im not in a place to say who's right and who's wrong. there was once a time where people believed so intently that the world was flat, untill it was proven wrong. . . and that is precisely why i dont throw myself into one religion. god created me, and i know he'll love me either way. im not a bad person,

Most people feel the need to be part of something bigger than themselves.
Jews don't recruit.
If you trying to convince me to have faith in your God, it didn't work.

People need to have hope and without hope history has shown time and again that societies will uprise and overthrow there wealthy and government. Religion creates hope and practices some very good core values that keep the masses contend enough even in poverty from uprising. The wealthy are always the smallest percent tile in ever society and they were the ones who helped bend and shape all religions throughout the world. I will also point out that most of the poorest countries in the world have the most devoted religious people compared to wealthier countries. The hope that there's an invisible man watching over you who sees everything you do creates the fear of acting out on emotion and also creates the possibility in a persons head that they will be punished in hell which makes the masses hesitate from uprising. It's all about maintaining control and order over people and that's why the bible, koran and tora were created. Science disproves every single religious book ever created but yet billions of people do not want to give up hope that there could be a god.

There is no mandate to be a part of organized religion. But you are confusing spirituality, which is self-centered with being a follower of Christ, which is Christ centered. With spirituality you can believe anything you want, because you are ultimately the arbiter of truth. Being a Christian means to follow Christ, to believe what He believed, to do what He commanded. As long as you choose a faith system that is based only on what one person (you) believe is true, then you can call anything truth. If you truly believe that you know all that is to be known, that might work. Most of us recognize that we don't know all that can be known, so we also recognize the need for deity...why else would there BE so many different religions? We all seek something because we know instinctively that we don't have the answers. When you look at the claims of all religions objectively, you can then make a choice as to which religion meets the criteria for truth. It is a fallacy that "all religions are the same, and all ultimately lead to God" They do not. They contradict one another at every turn. That is not to say that there is not truth in most of them, just that they are not THE truth. Jesus said "seek and you will find, knock and the door will be answered". He is not afraid of deep, critical questioning. Don't settle for tired popular cliche's, test the claims and the authenticity of the path(s) you find.

I feel the same way. The best part is we don't have to go to church! I think on the flip side that it is great if people want to belong to a certain religion if it fits with them. I always try to remember that religions with all of the problems that come with them, also civilized the world. Just the art alone - before people could read and write the stories of religion were told through art and we have these beautiful treasure troves. It is great to feel you can love God on your own, but many people need the support of a community as well.

Oh, but it does matter. There can only be one truth - it can't come in as many ways as there are people. That would make us each makers of our own individual truth. Which explains alot of the conflict!
IYou write that you are spirtual, can you define your beliefs? Or do they change each day, with each circumstance?
Truth comes from our Creator God and we cannot conform it to what we want or like. No argument can change that.
The truth is given is grace and mercy through Jesus Christ - who loves us without condition or limit. He is greater than we can grasp - he being God Himself has such great love for us that the Creator became the creation, and lived among us and gave his life in our place so we can know him and spend eternity with him through faith.
Do not look at religion or people, but at God. God does not have a religion, he doesn't need it, nor do I, I just need Jesus. I was a beggar looking for bread and he fed me.
And being a good person is wonderful, but not what will lead a person to know him or have eternal life.
Not possibly to have faith - but to have it as the defining meaning of your life and purpose.
:No one come to the Father except through Me" Jesus said. It is the truth. He loves you and gives the promises of life through faith.
Thanks for a terrific question!

Grow up.
Religion is one of the essential hallmarks of a civilization. There has never been an advanced society in history that lacked religion. Why? Because religion helps people to explain the unexplainable, establishes moral norms, performs works of charity for the community, and provides meaning and purpose to people's lives.
If all of us were merely "totally spiritual" (the very phrase makes me want to vomit) and believed in what we wanted to believe, OUR WAY OF LIFE WOULD BE DESTROYED. Without religion, the fabric of our society is rent asunder: people are cast adrift without answers or meaning, everyone suddenly gets to decide right and wrong for themselves, selfishness runs rampant. Gandhi said "God has no religion" because he believed that God was accessible through all religions - not because he felt people should turn their backs on religion!
Join an organized religion - commune with the spirits of the past, present, and future - become a part of something larger than yourself. It's not all about you.

No one should try to force their religion upon anyone. It is legitimate for a religious person to talk about their religion, but not for them to press you farther than you would like.
And yes, really all it comes down to is whether you are a good and loving person.

To say that God has no religion sound nice, but why that should that be true? Is it not possible that Gandhi was mistaken?
I would suggest rather that...
Jesus Christ is the highest revelation of God...
True Christianity is a matter of simply following his teachings.
And according to Jesus, there is only one way to God, and that is through him (Jesus).
For a brief explanation of the gospel (of salvation through Jesus Christ), see http://www.godsci.org/gs/new/essence.html
Cordially,

Religion should never be forced. according to some religions god but us on earth so we could choose for ourselves. if we would fallow in the steps of are maker or in our own steps. with out the freedom to choose we would not be who we are. and we would all be mindless with out reason to live.

God would need to have a higher god to pray to if He had a religion. I believe you are right. We don't need any religion in order to lead a decent life.
