They get their own utensils and they order their drinks at the cashier. Runners give them the food. I believe bussers do more work since they go back and forth carrying dishes.

At many restaurants in the US, the wait staff is expected to tipout to the rest of the support staff, such as the hostess, the bussers, the servers, and the bartenders. If they don't tipout and share a certain amount of their tips, it comes back to bite them in the butt. The hostess won't seat as many people at their tables, so they don't get as many tips. The servers and bartenders won't be in any hurry to get the orders ready, so the the waitperson looks like they are really slow. The bussers take their time cleaning off the tables, again reducing the amounts of tips received by the waitperson.

At some restaurants the busser gets a percentage of the tips.
Other restaurants the busser is considered a dishwasher and gets more per hour than a waiter or waitress so they do not get gratuity the waiter or waitress does.

Bussers are paid minimum wage per hour. Servers are paid $2.13 an hour and tips are expected to make up the difference.

I think in a cafeteria-style eating place it would be nice to leave 5 percent on the table. No other tips should be necessary.

Where are you located???

IN the USA we tip the waitress. They are the ones that take the order and bring it to our table. They also give us the bill and normally we pay them for our food.
