She is generally in good health apart from a recent problem with incontinence, which is currently being investigated by our vet. She had a major operation in March as she had a Uterine infection and since then has slowed down a bit and I dont think the hot weather is helping her.

:) My dog Sugar is a small mix breed. She just turned 22 years old! Here recently she encountered some health problems and I begin to think all of the worse reasons. Then it dawned on me, why in the world am I worring about her dieing so much and getting upset over it when instead I should be holding her and loving her no less because I am scared of that day she passes. I am to enjoy every minute I have with her, and thats what Im doing! :) I grew up with her. I also call her Sissy because I did not have brothers or sisters growing up. She knows more English language than many people! lol She means the world to me and I understand your concern for Meg to.
My advice, love and hold your dog while they are still here with you. :) Enjoy Meg every bit of her life with you.

P.S. The oldest dog that has been reliably documented was an Australian cattle-dog named Bluey. He was put to sleep at the age of 29 years and 5 months!
Hope this helps! :)

actually only 1-3 years. But hey, don't loose heart. She may live longer. My aunt had a great dane and since great danes are huge dogs and huge dogs are expected to live for about 12-13 years, my aunt was surprised when the dog died in its sleep at the age of 18!!!! Anyway, for the time being, she is there with you so you should spend some quality time with her and don't make her to active. Sit with her everyday and just pet her head and back or give her a good massage or groom her(if she likes to be groomed). Speak to her softly and say things like "good girl" or 'sweety pie' or call her something she likes. That way you will enjoy some quality time with her ans she will live her last few years blissfully.

She may have another 6 or so good years. Our dogs seem to average about 16 though and that is including the big ones averaged in. Be sure to keep up on the dental health though.

My Border Collie, Mandy, died of old age, at the age of 13....She had no health problems to my knowledge, and she just laid down, and took her last breath She was a very smart and perfect dog! I hope your girl has many more happy years with you!

Meg will always be with you, but you're time together may not be as long.
Enjoy the time you have left, and it will feel like a lifetime. Worry about things and time will be short.

I hope Meg enjoys her 14th birthday.

I know how you feel when you start thinking about 'that day', i get upset + worrid too. I have a Staffie who is nearly 11. You just have to do like others have answered, + love every minute of the time you have now. (But you're not alone when you worry)! :)
