Dander ISN'T their hair, it's the skin under their hair...you know...like where we get the term "Dandruff"!

Every cat has dander, but it does change with what type of cat you get. Curly haired and hairless cats have the leat amount of dander to worry about.

Long hairs have the most.

Any kind of short hair is about the same as any other short haired cat.

I thought I was allergic to cats for the same reason, but I learned to take care of her well enough that she rarely gets me allergic anymore. I used to give her monthly baths using a warm washcloth, which she actually enjoys, and that would also reduce the chance of the dander in the air because it was a special dander pet shampoo. Nowadays I only need to brush her as much as I have time for, and allergies only strike when I've had to go away for a while, and the fur has built up around the apartment from neglect. At that point it takes about a day or two of cleaning before I can breathe easy again. I love my calico. Good luck with yours if you decide to get one.

calico is a color not a breed so its pretty hard to say how much your cat will shed. Im pretty sure all cats shed except maybe those hairless ones & even then you amay still suffer alleriges because its the dander on their skin athat people are allergic too...I wish you luck though!!

All cats shed but it is actually the dander and the saliva from licking that affect your allergies. Just make sure you give the cats baths regularly to get rid of it.

all cats shed that i know of...except maybe sphinx. it isn't the color of the cat that determines the shedding...it's the breed. some breeds will shed more than others and require more grooming...like long haired cats will need to be brushed quite often because of the mats they can get in their fur.

forewarned...if you do get your mom a calico cat, it will be a female. 99.999999% of calicos are females...males are rare. so if you do get her one, consider getting the cat spayed so that your mom wouldn't have accidental kittens if the cat would happen to get outside and she didn't want her out there.

Calico is more a color than a breed, so it depends on whether they have long hair or short hair and a few other things. They're great cats, so can you get a shot for the allergy?

It's all just a matter of personal preference. I actually have short hair and guys just like it. And i prefer a man with short hair over a man with long hair because long tresses tends to make guys look as well girly.
