Most would argue that killing in war is not an equal act to murder. The government defines them differently, and judging by the Old Testament, God defines them differently, too.

Actually, the bible says murder is a mortal sin, but also lying, lusting, stealing, and taking God's name in vain. Did you know that? Have you done any of those things? And yes, any sin will damn someone to hell, because God says all liars, murderers, theives, fornicators and hypocrites will have their part in the lake of fire. He is too holy and just, and sinners will not be allowed in heaven. But because He is merciful and loves us, He sent His Son, Jesus, to live sinlessly and take our punishment on the cross. Anyone who truly repents of his or her sin AND puts his/her faith in Jesus and does NOT trust in his/her own righteousness will be saved from hell.

By the way, Psalm 18:29 "For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall ... (v. 34) He teaches my hands to make war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze ... (v. 40) You have also given me the necks of my enemies, so that I destroyed those who hated me." It is given to governments to make war, and soldiers are not held responsible for obeying their kings, leaders, etc., during a time of war. However, obviously, killing unnecessarily, or out of hate, or rage, or lust, or out of the direct obedience to the cause, would be murder.

To Derek. Did the Bible really say ALL sins are mortal? what about this?

1 John 5:16:
"If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray."

And this?

1 John 5:17
All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not unto death.

The Bible says that "ALL SINS" are Mortal. PERIOD. It says "the soul that is sinning, it itself SHALL DIE." There.

So, all sins are EQUAL to God and once you die, you've paid for your sins. At least according to God, but what does HE know compared to a Christian?

Also, God does not condemn soldiers or people who act on their governments behalf, but he will hold the Governments themselves responsible on the final day. That's why they have "their princes or Guardian Angels" as described in the Book of Daniel, so that they can Keep an Accounting to be called up for it.

No. There is a difference between killing and murder. Killing in the name of society is and always has been acceptable, even in the Bible. How many times did God tell Israel to go to war against its neighbors? Murder is unauthorized killing. You need to understand how language works. Sheesh. That's why abortion 'isn't murder'. It's legal. Immoral, but legal.

Murder is the intentional killing of innocent life.

A solider in battle, fighting against other soldiers in battle, is not a matter of murder.

War is unpleasant business, and should not be embarked upon lightly. However it is the responsibility of a government to protect its people -- and that includes by war if needed.

Cordially,
John

Whenever someone takes another life, that person must make amends. The circumstances behind the killing, as well as the souls disposition are factors in your expiation of this wrong. But to answer you question, yes, if you kill, whether to protect another, yourself, or to simply kill for personal gain, you will need to repay this debt to Providence.
The people who commanded these soldiers are responsible for all the deaths their soldiers caused, as is the governing officials who voted to go to war, must answer for all the deaths their decisions have caused.

The true expression of Gods love is in our love for each other. Soldier or not, no one has the right to take another's life. The Bible talked about "the abomination that causes desolation sitting in high places..." when such happens, God "gives them over to their depravity.." and wrong choices that lead to terrible consequences are made.

in the old days, and now, wars are over religion, and religious power. So to say that American soldiers are going to hell that support the Christian religion, mostly no they will not go to hell. it mostly depends on the individual soldiers. If they themselves are saved, gave them self to god. Then no, as long as they realize that they have killed. But if the soldier has no religion, and no god. then yes, they will go to hell for murder

Self defense is not murder. One may kill in order to save a life; or go to war to save a people.
