Other seemingly reasonable people are convinced of things that you should have difficulty believing in. ESP, ghosts, UFO's, supply-side economics; there's a long list of faith-based theories. And it's hard to suggest that other religions are less faithful than Christianity. Egyptians once created expensive pyramids for their own personal burial, while many young Muslims today trade their lives for the next one. And that's not to mention the cultists. It'd be hard to suggest that most Christians are as zealous about their beliefs as the Branch Davidians, or your typical Scientologist. The average Christian looks like a regular Doubting Thomas in comparison.

So what makes you so special? Why are we to believe you, when all these other believers sound so much more convincing? How are you so sure that you're not making the same mistake they did? And isn't your answer exactly what the others would say too? Honest answers accepted; and remember, punctuation is always important

For m, the decision to follow Christ was the result of many years of searching; studying many religions, philosphies and ideals. In the end, Christianity not only made the most sense to me, but seemed completely genuine in its original intenstions.
So I like to think that it was the result of much hard work and searching that led me to my beliefs, and not my own mind convincing me of them. I hope my punctuation was satisfactory, I know I took a risk with the semi-colon. But it was such risks that made me the God-fearing man I am today.

While I realize your question is directed primarily at christians, I hope you won't mind my being unable to resist the siren call. (LOL)

I have been convinced of a few things that most people would have a great deal of difficulty believing. But the difference between myself and the prostetyzers is that I am aware that what convinced me that there are gods and spirits and other worlds was a completely subjective experience that by definition can convince no else.

So why do I keep coming back here? Well, sometimes its entertaining, and I will admit I sometimes troll those on here who are nasty and hypocritical. But occasionally, I run across someone who is experiencing a paradigm shift and wants to speak to another who has gone through something similar. One's first meeting with the Otherworld can be quite disorienting.

Do you know when you are telling the truth or when you are making up a scenario.

Many people are rebellious and they don't want to believe in anything that will restrict their actions. It is selfishness and rebelliousness which keeps people away from learning the truth.

the Cults you speak of are damaging or even deadly. You can tell by the results of these cults. They go against the commandments and against common sense.

People who want to have special powers to be like Gods are Committing the same sin as Adam & Eve.

How can people think that they have power likr God when they are selffish. God is pure love. If you are trying to have special power and you are not pure love and faithfullness to the Commandments and The Beattitudes, you are entering into the relm of satan. In fact your special powers are most likely listening to the lier of all liers. Therefore you are being deceived. Satan does not know the future.

When you follow the teachings of Jesus, Your life has more meaning and you will avoid many heartaches which result from disobediance.

Those who are blindded by sin cannot see goodness for what it is. Anyone who seeks the truth in love will see the truth and will recognise God's beautiful people about them.

It's Heaven all the way to Heaven and it's Hell all the way to Hell.

God Bless You, ;-)

You make a very excellent point.

I would answer in the affirmative concerning your question.

People are often judgemental of Christians and think that all of us have no ability to reason.

Many of us do and exercise that reason continuously.

That maybe why some of us seem as "Doubting Thomas'" in the eyes of some.

It is not that we doubt, it is that we reason.

As CHRIST said," ...come let us reason together".

That is a good point. I choose to believe in Jesus and all he did and everything he stands for. So what if I die and find out that he never existed. O well nothing lost then right. So what if I were to all of a sudden think its all a lie, continuing to live like its a lie, then one day i die, and find out because i refused to believe, didn't live my life like i should have. What then? My thinking is that i would rather live and believe and die to find out that he didnt, than to live my life as he never existed and die to find out that he actually did.

To me it is not a mistake, it is a choice. Me personally I believe I have made the right choice.

Of course, there is no way to know. People believe what they do for many different reasons - whether it be tradition or because they have chosent their own path.

Certainly this is always a possibility - you have to trust in yourself.

And who says this is not in God's plan, anyway? :)

Best wishes.
